About Our Funeral Home and Our Commitment to You
Kesling Funeral Home was established in 1934 in Timber Lake, South Dakota as part of a hardware and furniture store by J.D. Kesling. In 1963 J.D. purchased the Miles Funeral Home in Mobridge from Ray Miles. J.D. remained in Timber Lake until 1965 when he moved into Mobridge to run the funeral home at 221 Second Avenue East. Our current Kesling Funeral Home building was completed in 1986. The granite covering the outside consists of two twelve-foot murals. The funeral home consists of a large chapel with aromatic cedar siding and seats 175 people. J.D. remained the owner until 1996 when Larson Funeral Homeowners Kenneth and Roxanne Ripley purchased the funeral home continuing the legacy of the local family-owned business.
Having apprentice under Mr. Ripley since graduating high school in Selby South Dakota, Eric Schley became a business partner in 2015. The funeral home continued to serve the Walworth County area and the surrounding counties, conveying stability and expertise while staying dedicated to their craft and to their customers. Focusing on the passion of the younger generation bringing new skills while honoring the past, Kesling Funeral Home transitioned to new leadership in August 2025 when Eric and Kourtenay Schley purchased the funeral home from Kenneth and Roxanne Ripley maintaining a commitment to community over the decades.
Today, Kesling Funeral Home serves six local counties providing customer care. Taking seriously Kesling Funeral Home’s commitment to local ties and family relationships that guide a legacy of personalized service and deep-rooted trust.
