Funeral services for Dawn Marie Spotted Horse, 53, of Aberdeen and formerly of McLaughlin will be at 11 AM, Friday, March 20, 2026 at the McLaughlin Blue Gym. Burial will be at the McLaughlin City Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. A procession will leave Thursday from the funeral home at 4 PM for an all night wake at the McLaughlin Blue Gym. Dawn passed away, Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen.

Dawn was born on July 26, 1972, in Fort Yates, North Dakota to Deborah Giroux and Blaine Spotted Horse.

Dawn Spotted Horse grew up in McLaughlin, SD, she attended St. Francis and McLaughlin High School. Dawn loved to swim as she was on the McLaughlin school swim team. As Dawn progressed through school, she found herself graduating from S.I.P.I College in New Mexico with her GED. Upon graduation, Dawn returned home to South Dakota. Growing up, Dawn loved taking care of her siblings and making new friends wherever she traveled in the country. She also got to know a lot of relatives and relations along her journey. Everyone that knew Dawn knows she had a very fun personality joking, laughing, loving, outgoing, visiting people, she also had a lot of intuitive empathy. She always gave hugs and said I love you when she saw friends and family.

Dawn worked many jobs in her lifetime, she was a bartender at Club 121, cage cashier, and card dealer at Mystic Lake Casino. Dawn preferred to spend time with family and friends over everything else, and in the last few years leading up to her journey into the spirit world.

Dawn faced hardships and trials with health, she took up community service through her church to help the community around her. Sher followed Christianity, looking to the light of God for guidance and reassurance in her life. In her last moments, she was able to help out three lives because she was a donor.

Dawn is survived by her mother, Deborah Giroux and siblings, Robin Farrell, Agnes Giroux, Sybil Taken Alive, Kenneth Spotted Horse and Katlin Tiger, also surviving are numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and many more relatives and friends.

Dawn is preceded in death by her father, Blaine Spotted Horse, maternal grandparents Agnes Fox-Giroux, Claude Giroux, Sr., maternal grandparents, Brent Long Chase and Hazel Spotted Horse, siblings, Bernie Spotted Horse, Lenore Spotted Horse, Roxanne Spotted Horse, Bruce Archambault, Travis Giroux.

Casketbearers will be Kenneth Spotted Horse, Katlin Tiger, Zaken Spotted Horse, Kendric Spotted Horse, Kole Sotted Horse, Chance Giroux, Shawn Crow Ghost, Dustin Ironshield, Ashton Giroux, Levi Tiger.

Honorary Casketbearers are Tammie Two Hearts, Carrie Long Cloud, Samie Rose McCauley, JoBeth Brownotter, Williamette Archambault, Shane Eagle, Heidi Zephier, Wilma Tiger, Mary Brown, Mary Lou Maxon, Jackie Brownotter, Torylynn Swanson, Janelle Trottier, Rose Marie Bruce, Jackie Little Dog and all of Dawn’s many family and friends, far too numerous to mention by name. Dawn loved you all!

Dawn Marie Spotted Horse will be missed and loved by all that knew her. Just know she loves you all and will always be in your hearts.
