Funeral services for Yvonne Garreaux, 77, of Eagle Butte will be held at 11:00 AM (MT), Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at the St. John's Episcopal Church in Eagle Butte. Family is requested to meet at the 4-mile Junction at 4:00 PM (MT), Monday, July 31, 2023, for a procession to the church where a prayer service will begin at 7:00 PM (MT). Yvonne passed away, Friday, July 21 at the Eagle Butte IHS Hospital.

Yvonne "Yogi" Ardyce Garreaux, 77, was born June 12, 1946, in Bismarck, ND to Seraphine and Lillie Garreaux. She was a sibling to Esther, Inez, Delma, Bill, Calvin, and Cyril. Yogi grew up at the "White Horse" house that was located north of Laplant, SD. In her early years she attended school at the Cheyenne Agency before graduating from St. Mary's School in Springfield, SD. With the passing of her father, she went on to live with her mother in Laplant before she moved to Oakland, California. She attended the Relocation Program, and she was blessed with her first-born son, Anthony Thomas. Yogi then went on to meet and wed Jon Mike. With this union she welcomed three children: Jonathan, Reiko, and Jess Mike. Shortly after she returned to South Dakota where she worked various jobs including CRST Housing Authority, Indian Action, Legal Services, Sacred Heart Center, and finally found her calling with the Bureau of Indian Education. She would go on to work with the BIE from 1988 to 2014 as a dorm matron to which she was commonly referred to as "Grandma Yogi". During her time back in Eagle Butte, SD she met and wed Delbert Bruguier, Sr. and welcomed Rose and Delbert Jr. In 1981, Yogi welcomed her final baby girl Markata Jade. In 1985, she met the love of her life, Chris Bordeaux, initially making their home in Eagle Butte, SD before returning to Laplant. Upon his passing Yogi made her final move back to Eagle Butte where she would remain. Throughout her residencies one thing that never seemed to change is that she always welcomed others into her home and made them feel like family. Yogi went on to raise numerous children that she grew to love as her own. She was an exceptional grandmother, and all her grandchildren were very special to her as they were a huge part of her. She had a big hand in raising some of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Yvonne was proudly known for her cooking and was famous for her frybread. People raved about her Indian tacos, and they were always a hit. Like her mother she was also a very talented seamstress and made numerous of star quilts. Yogi had an eye for always creating unique patterns and using distinctive color designs for her quilt work. Yogi's quilting was ordered and bought both locally and nationwide, and one even made its way to China. Eventually she had to give up her sewing due to health reasons. She then spent her time engaged in family extracurricular activities and sporting events for her grandchildren as she was their number one fan! She made time for friends and family as she loved to visit and told stories of her escapades. Yogi loved to laugh and had the tendency to leave you with a smile. She also did some traveling during this time as well and would often adventure off with her lifelong friend, Aldina Moran, as they were known as Thelma and Louise.

Yvonne is survived by sons Tony Pearman, Jess (Lori) Mike, and Delbert (Shantoya) Bruguier, daughters Rose (Donel) Newbrough, and Markata Chasing Hawk, 22 grandchildren, and 36 great grandchildren.

Yvonne was proceeded in death by the love of her life Chris Bordeaux, son Jonathon Mike, daughter Reiko Mike, daughter-in-law Raquel Pearman, grandsons Coleton Mike, Tre' Pearman, great grandson Lennick Mike, her parents Seraphine and Lillie Garreaux, siblings Esther, Calvin, Bill, Inez, Delma and Cyril.
