Funeral services for Wilmer Vollmer, age 89, of Dayton, OH and formerly of Mobridge will be at 10 AM on Monday, May 26, 2014 at Kesling Funeral Home in Mobridge. Burial will be at the McLaughlin Baptist Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Wilmer passed away Sunday, March 30, 2014 at his residence in Dayton.

Wilmer Vollmer was born in the Mobridge Hospital on May 28, 1924 to Mr. & Mrs. Adam & Emma Vollmer. He passed away March 30, 2014 at the home of his daughter, Sandra, in Dayton, Ohio, where he made his home for the last 5 years.

Wilmer grew up on a farm seven miles west of McLaughlin, South Dakota. He attended school in the McLaughlin area. He helped his dad on the farm and did some bundle hauling with a threshing crew.

Wilmer met Ruth Koch of Hecla, SD, after she moved to McLaughlin to teach school. They were married June 25, 1945 and lived above the Gamble store in McLaughlin. In 1949 they moved to a farm 10 miles NW of McLaughlin. Wilmer planted 36 acres of flax, which he sold and bought a truck to haul grain and cattle. In 1953 Wilmer was baptized into the Seventh-day Adventist Church. In 1968 after an early blizzard caught their cattle out in the pasture, they sold their farm and moved to a home 1 mile north of McLaughlin. Wilmer then started selling cars for Schweighert Chevrolet in McLaughlin. In 1969 he joined the staff at Davidson Chevrolet in Mobridge. In 1979 they moved to Mobridge. He was one on Davidson's top salesmen. Wilmer retired in 1988 and from 1980 to 2002 they spent their winters in Arizona. Wilmer lived alone in Mobridge for two years after Ruth died in 2007, until he started falling. In 2009 he went to live with Sandra and Forrest in Dayton, Ohio.

Wilmer is survived by two sons, Keith (Beckie) Vollmer of Kansas City, MO and Ken (Linda) Vollmer of Lincoln, NE, one daughter, Sandra (Forrest) Vollmer Anderson of Dayton, OH, five grandchildren, Tracy (Kory) Vollmer Kreiter of Kansas City, MO, Adam (Jennifer) Vollmer of Kansas City, MO, Dawn (Anthony) Anderson Walker of Dallas, TX, Jeffrey (Kimberlee) Anderson of Dayton, OH and Chase Vollmer of Lincoln, NE, seven Great Grandchildren, Paige Kreiter, Peyton Kreiter, Rowan Vollmer, Aidan Vollmer, Meadow Charley, Elijah Charley, and Forrest Walker, Three sisters, Verna Tucker, Pearl Siewert and Mary Ogden.

Wilmer is preceded in death by his parents, Adam Vollmer and Emma Pfeifer Vollmer, Wife, Ruth Koch Vollmer, one son, Robert (1974), two brothers, Raymond and Abraham and two sisters, Ruby and Irene.
