IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Wilma
Greger
October 3, 1929 – September 21, 2024
Funeral services for Wilma Greger of Selby will be at 10:30 AM, Friday, September 27, 2024, at St. John Lutheran Church in Selby. Burial will be at the Selby Memorial Gardens under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will start at 5 PM with a prayer service at 7PM Thursday at the church.
Wilma (Grenz) Greger, age 94, returned to her Savior on September 21, 2024, at the Walworth County Care Center in Selby.
Wilma was born to Joseph and Justina (Haas) Grenz on October 3, 1929, near Trail City, South Dakota. The family later moved to the Mound City area where Wilma spent the remainder of her childhood.
On May 21, 1950, she married the love of her life, Edward Greger in the Baptist Church in Herreid, SD. Starting their life together, the couple worked on various farms near Bowdle, Agar and Seneca. In 1964 they made their permanent home in Selby. Their union was blessed with seven children: Allen, Ronnie, Karen, Kaylene, Jeffery, Jerome and Jody.
Wilma would spend the next 20 plus years painting numerous houses, churches, schools and barns in both North and South Dakota. When she wasn't climbing ladders and bossing her children around to work harder, you could find her cleaning ducks, chicken, geese and pheasants for farmers, and local hunters and for Minnesotans who would hunt the area. She made sure the workforce (her children) saved the bird down so she could make pillows for them and to sell at her favorite past time: Rummage Sales. This provided an opportunity for her to bake kuchen, also a big hit at the rummage sales as they disappeared as fast as she set them on the table. Wilma's love for rummage sales, whether having her own or visiting others, would last a lifetime. If she wasn't busy enough raising a family, painting, and cleaning fowl, Wilma also provided at home personal care for a family in Selby.
After her husband died in 1995 Wilma moved to Aberdeen where she worked as a housekeeper for Super 8. She was known by her fellow staff members for inventing the laundry basket band that she used to help drag the heavy bedding down the hall. She would later move to the breakfast bar where she loved visiting with guests of the motel.
Wilma returned to Selby in 2014 where she was a member of St John's Lutheran Church.
Wilma is survived by her children Ronnie (Deb), Stratton, Co; Karen Miklos (Bob Knecht), Selby; Jeffery (Elizabeth), Aberdeen, SD; Jerome (Traci), Spearfish, SD; Jody (Kevin) Skaggs; Gillette, WY; daughter in law Cynthia Greger, Wright, WY; son in law Ed Kosters, Wright WY, 21 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
Wilma was preceded in death by her father and mother, her husband Edward (1995); son Allen (2002); daughter Kaylene (2010); son in law Jack Eller (2011); sisters Irene, Lorraine and Freida and brothers Milbert and Benjamin.
