Funeral service for William "Bob" Little Bear, Sr., 49, of McLaughlin will be 2PM Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at the McLaughlin Blue Gym. All night wake will be Monday, May 13 starting at 7PM at the Blue Gym, family and friends to meet at Kesling Funeral Home by 5PM to follow to McLaughlin. Burial will be in the St. Paul's Episcopal Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home. William passed away Saturday, May 4, 2013 at his home in McLaughlin.
William "Bob" Lee Little Bear Sr. was born May 6th, 1963, in Fort Yates, N.D. to Wilma Taken Alive and Elias Little Bear. He made his journey to the Spirit World on May 3, 2013 at his brothers home in McLaughlin, South Dakota.
"Bob" grew up in Little Eagle where he loved to ride horse, fish, swim and hang out with his Kolas'. After the passing of his mother at the age of 9 years old, he went to live with his grandmother, Florence Taken Alive. He received his G.E.D. at Custer, S.D. on July 24th, 1979. In 1982, he enlisted in the Military with the United States Marines when Anna Long Chase was pregnant with their first born, Nicole Little Bear. He was stationed in Camp Le Jeune, N.C. where he worked on Tanks. Bob and Anna were married in 1984, and that's when their first born son, Chaske was born. After the military, Bob went to the United Tribes Technical College to go into the Plumbing trade, where people relied on him to fix their plumbing. His youngest son, William was born in 1987. He was a skilled Mechanic, who fixed many cars for friends and family, no matter if it was zero below or 100 degrees outside. People knew he was a generous man.He was a jack of all trades and decided to attend the CDL training through the SRST TERO program where he successfully earned his CDL with double and triple endorsements. William held numerous jobs with Jensen's Rock & Sand. He worked Road construction for Foothills contracting. His most recent job was with the South Dakota Wheat Grower's. He was a great provider to Anna and his children and especially his grandson, Dionte'.
Bob's passions in life were spending time with his grandson, Dionte', family and friends, and taking care of his two dogs, Bruiser and Mahto. He loved to go fishing with his brothers and sons and was looking forward to fishing weather. He was so caring to all animals and to prove that, he rescued both his dogs. He was diagnosed with cancer in 2011.
He is survived by his life-long companion, Anna Long Chase, McLaughlin, S.D.; his children: Nicole Little Bear, Chaske Little Bear, William Little Bear Jr., all of McLaughlin; grandson, Dionte', brothers, Nelson and Maurice Little Bear, McLaughlin, S.D.; sister, Delores Yellow Horse, Pine Ridge, S.D.; Dogs, Bruiser and Mahto.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilma Taken Alive and Elias Little Bear; sister, April Little Bear; Maternal Grandparents, William "Bob" Taken Alive and Florence Taken Alive and Paternal Grandparents, John and Agnes Little Bear, mother-in-law, Hazel Noreen Moran and brother-in-law, Farron G Long Chase.
