Memorial services for Wesley David Murphy, age 57 of Firesteel, will be 1PM MT, Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at the Isabel Community Center in Isabel with Pastor Bryce Schaffer. Wesley David Murphy, 57, passed Saturday April, 21, 2012 at Isabel, SD after a battle with cancer. Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge, SD. is in charge of arrangements.
Wesley was born on April 21, 1955 in Rapid City, SD to David and Arlene (Shavlik) Murphy. He graduated from Douglas High School in 1973. He graduated from Midwest Driver School in 1978. Wesley began his career driving over the road for Midwest Coast. Wesley then married Carol Lynn Haahr July 11, 1981 in Algona, Iowa. They made their home in Firesteel, South Dakota where Wesley worked for Wilson Farms, driving truck and farming. Wesley's daughter, Fallon Lynn, was born November 4, 1991.
Wesley began hauling fuel for Darrel Burke of Burke Grain Company, where he worked until he was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2010. He was recognized for driving truck over 1,000,000 miles accident free in 2001. In 2002, Wesley was given an award for driver of the month by the South Dakota Safety Management Council for an excellent driving record and a positive attitude toward highway safety. The Burke Grain Company presented Wesley with a plaque for outstanding service as a professional truck driver.
Wesley was an avid hunter and fisherman and went on many expeditions. He was an early riser who enjoyed his regular cup of coffee while checking the fuel prices. Wesley also loved to read a good book and enjoyed playing FreeCell and Solitaire.
Wesley is survived by his wife of 31 years, Carol and his daughter, Fallon, both of Firesteel, SD; his mother, Arlene of Rapid City, SD; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Dennis and Patty of Bismarck, ND, Steven and Jeffrey both of Rapid City, SD; Godson, Kyler Ley of Timber Lake, SD; father and mother-in-law, Curtis and Esther Haahr of Ringsted, IA; two brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Calvin Haahr of Ringsted, IA., Verlyn and Leanna Haahr of Waterloo, IA; and nieces and nephews, Nicholas, Andy, April, Allison, Jacey, Benjamin, Daniel, Megan, Mariah and Andrew.
Wesley was preceded in death by his father, David Lewis, a niece, Summer and grandparents, Joseph and Kathryn Shavlik, and David and Alice Murphy.
