Mass of Christian Burial for Wayne Maxon, age 67, of McLaughlin will be at 10 AM, MT, Thursday, June 20, 2019 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in McLaughlin. Burial will be at Mossman Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. A Rosary service will be at 7 PM Wednesday at the church with visitation at 6 PM. Wayne passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at Mobridge Regional Hospital.
Wayne Eugene Maxon was born on April 14 th , 1952 in Ft. Yates, ND to Charlotte (Platzer) Maxon and Milo Maxon Jr. He was the fourth youngest of the five siblings Ed, Mike, Ray, and Tammy. He grew up and attended McLaughlin High School where he excelled in football, basketball, and track. Wayne graduated from McLaughlin High School in 1970. After high school, Wayne was an active member of the Army National Guard. Wayne married Lori Slater, they had one daughter Korena (Maxon) Ediburn. Wayne later married Carol (Garreaux) Maxon on October 18 th , 1985 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in McLaughlin. They had five children Shawn Garreaux, Jeff, Rushael, Tyson, and Tiara Maxon. Wayne was a full-time rancher with his brother Ray, he spent a large amount of time working on the ranch but he always made time to watch his children's and grandchildren's sporting events and accomplishments. Wayne was a man of very few words, but a great sense of humor. He was never too busy to lend a hand or a few words of advice.
In Wayne's youth he was a tremendous athlete and well-accomplished bullrider. He won the SDRA Champion Bullrider in 1982 and the INFR Champion Bullrider in 1981. He would travel far and wide to compete in the sport that he loved. He also enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, basketball, softball, bowling, playing poker, camping, and traveling. Wayne also volunteered his time with the McLaughlin Volunteer Fire Department and helping with the McLaughlin Rodeo Celebration.
Wayne is survived by his six children Korena, Shawn, Jeff, Rushael, Tyson, and Tiara. Brothers Ed, Mike, Ray and sister Tammy. Parents in-law Emaline & Ed Moran. Grandchildren Halle, Ralph, Jay, Maria, Avery, Treston, and Braedyn. Numerous Nieces and Nephews.
Wayne Passed away on June 12 th , 2019 at the age of 67. He is preceded into death by his wife Carol, his parents Milo & Charlotte, and close friend, C.L. Johnson.
