Funeral service for Wanbli Hok'sila Sam 27 of Albuquerque, NM will be Monday Nov. 22, 2010 at 10:00 AM, MT at H.V. Johnston Cultural Center in Eagle Butte. Wake service will be Sunday at 5 PM, MT at the Cultural Center. Burial will be at Ascension Episcopal Cemetery in Blackfoot under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Family will be meeting at the 4 mile junction at 4 PM, MT. Wanbli Hok'sila passed away Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010 in Albuquerque.
Wanbli Hok'sila Kyle Sam was born August 9, 1983 in Eagle Butte, SD to Marvin W. Sam and Catherine Sand- Tsosie. He was the second youngest of seven siblings. He was raised in Eagle Butte most of his life and attended school there until he was 18 years old when he then moved to Rapid City, where he worked at Wendys as a cook and also at Howard Johnson.
In 2006 he moved back to Eagle Butte for just a year. Then in 2007 he moved to Sisseton, SD with his older brother Ronald Holy Bull. While in Sisseton he worked at Schultz Food Inc. Then at the end of the year in December 2007 he moved to Albuquerque, NM were he met his fiancé Belinda Cati and step daughter Arlinda Cati of Santo Domingo, NM. He started school at CNM, studying plumbing and also worked with a roofing company, and with the Albuquerque Journal. Wanbli and his family lived in Albuquerque with his brother-in-law up until his death.
Wanbli is survived by his mother Catherine (Emerson) Tsosie of Albuquerque, NM, Dad Marvin (Rose) Sam of Crownpoint, NM, brother Magoo Holy Bull of Sisseton, SD, 4 sisters Cheyanne Crane of Albuquerque, NM, Shawnee (Michael) Baca of Eagle Butte, SD and Cherokee Sam of Albuquerque, NM, Fiancé Belinda and his step daughter Arlinda of Santo Domingo, NM, other brothers and sisters Cheyenne, Merolee, Tee Jay Sam all of Crownpoint, NM.
Those waiting for him were his grandpa Dennis Sand, grandma Catherine Catch The Bear, grandma Almira Atone, sister Shawnee S. Holy Bull, grandpa's Harry Red Fox and Aurdrey Red Fox, and all aunties, uncles, grandparents, and cousins.
