Funeral services for Walter Twinn Sr., 73, of Fort Yates, ND, are 10AM, Thursday, June 16, 2016, at the A.J. Agard Building, Fort Yates. Burial at Twinn Family Cemetery, rural Fort Yates, under the direction of the Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge, SD. All-night wake is 5PM, with a prayer service at 7PM, Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at the A.J. Agard Building. Walter passed away Friday, June 10, 2016, at IHS Hospital in Fort Yates.
Walter was born on February 19, 1943, to Lucy (Redstone) and Henry Twinn. He attended school at St. Bernard's Mission and Standing Rock High School, where he graduated in 1962.
He married Arlene Chapman and from this union Walter Twinn Jr. of Yakama, WA, and Ferdinand Twinn of Hardin, MT, were born, and his foster children, Darrell Iron Shield of Fort Yates, Joey Dahl of Montana, and Cedric LaFramboise of MT. He met Twyla Zahn in 1983 and to this union Jay C Twinn was born. As well as his step children, Bill Fox and Leah, Pamela Fox, and Catherine Keeps Eagle.
In 2015, Walter was inducted into the Soft Ball Hall of Fame. He drove bus for Standing Rock School for 40 years and retired in 1983. He then worked for R & D Construction driving truck and worked for Standing Rock Head Start.
He is survived by his wife, Twyla; his brother, Donald (Marcella) Twinn; his nieces, Eunice Grey Bear, Darlene (Steve) Yellow Earrings, Karen Dogskin, Belinda Bruce; as well as numerous grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; his sisters, Marlene Twinn, Emma Grey Bear, Sharon Kidder, and Violet Twinn; his brothers, Sylvester, Duane, Clayton, Ronald, and Felix and Isabelle Kidder; and his sons, Craig Twinn, Nevada Twinn, Justin Fox, and Larry Fox Jr.
