Mass of Christian Burial for Walter Hummel, 77, of Mobridge will be at 10 AM, Monday, November 30, 2015 at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mobridge. Burial will be at the Trail City Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. A prayer service will be held at the church Sunday at 7 PM with visitation staring at 5 PM. Walter passed away, Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at the Golden Living Center.
Walter Hummel was born on February 11, 1938 to John and Katherin (Gefroh) Hummel in Hague, ND. In 1941 he moved with his family to Trail City, SD. He attended country school until the eighth grade then went on to help on the farm and other area farmers. He began his plumbing career in Mobridge working for local plumbers before starting his own business which he ran until 2012 when he retired.
Walter had a passion for horses. He broke wild horses in his younger years and later raised race horses. His running quarter horse G Bar Dancer won first place at the Ft. Pierre race track one year. Walter was quite proud of that accomplishment.
Walter enjoyed taking care of his horses and cats. He also enjoyed gardening which he raised quite a few tomatoes and giving a majority of them away. He was a kind, gentle hearted man who was willing to help others. He lived his life to the fullest in his own way.
Walter is survived by brothers and sisters, Helen (James) Daschel of Sioux Falls, Francis Hummel of Trail City, John (Phyllis) Hummel of Lester Prairie, MN, Jennie (Gary) Johnson of Sioux City, IA, Irene (Alan) Kuckelburg of Aberdeen, Angie (Don) Thiemann of Winsted, MN, Al (Rebecca) Hummel of Springfield, MO, Marlene (Robert) Kritzeck of Winsted, MN sister-in-law, Jean Hummel of New Prague, MN, brother-in-law, Roger Bolan of MN and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Ben and Mark, sister Elaine Bolan and niece, Casey Kritzeck.
