Funeral services for Walfred "Wally" Walz age 82 of Mobridge will be Saturday at 1:30 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mobridge. Pastor Doug Westerlund officiating, Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen, SD under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Funeral Home. Military honors were provided by the Parker-Browder American Legion Post of Mobridge. Mr. Walz passed away on February 22, 2010 at the Mobridge Regional Hospital.
Wally was born October 13, 1927 to Edward and Alletha (Haar) Walz at Bowdle, South Dakota. He attended Bowdle Grade School and High School. In the early years Wally worked at various farms around Bowdle and worked at K.O.LEES in Aberdeen before entering the US Army in April of 1946 and was honorably discharged in September 1947. After returning from service he worked in Mobridge as a taxi cab driver and service station for Mobil Oil.
In 1951 he married Gerline St. Rommer and worked for the CMSP Railroad for a year before moving to Seattle, Washington. While in Seattle, Wally worked for Seattle Retreading, Corp for nine years.
In 1955 he married Florence Krystad and to this union one daughter; Starr A. Walz was born in 1959 and adopted Barney & Judy from a previous marriage.
He then worked for Sundstrand Corp. & Electronic Corp for 26 years as a machinist, supervisor and Mfg. Engineer.
In 1977 he married Irene Sieler and they returned to Mobridge in 1985. After retiring Wally continued to work for Jay's Realty part time maintaining the apartment service, and did repair work on the rentals.
Wally is survived by his wife Irene of Mobridge, children; Starr Annette Walz of Monroe, Washington, Judy Frost of Seattle, Washington, step children; Carol (Bill) Vandenberg, Duane (Okcha) Sieler, Sheila (Doug) Roettle, Becky (Kevin) Dallmann and Ricky Sieler. 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren and 2 sisters Eloise Dobeck of Las Vegas, Nevada and Dianna Aman of Mobridge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, on son; Barney, one brother; Jerry and one sister Luella.
The organist will be Elaine Pringle the congregation will sing Rock of Ages, In The Garden and the Old Rugged Cross.
The casketbearers will Jeff, John and Jay Ruth, Rickey Aman, Wayne, Brandon and Brianna Stangl.
Honorary casketbearers will be His Coffee Buddies at the Legion, His Fishing Buddies and Bill Klucas.
