Vivian Esther (Le Compte) Smith was born to Casper Le Compte and Virginia La Plante on July 27, 1943 at the old Cheyenne River Agency. She grew up going to school in Cheyenne River along with her many brothers and one sister. Before her 21 st birthday she met the love of her life Robert Derald Smith Jr. On August 13 th , 1964 they were married and soon had three sons, Farrel, Darrel, and Thomas.

Her occupations included Post Master, running a thrift store, working at the Grand River Casino and Aberdeen Detention Center after she retired as Post Master. She had many interests and hobbies to keep her busy like beading, gardening, attending mass, collecting glass swans, also always organizing and putting together her family history. Along with raising her three boys she also raised plenty of animals including a deer, a squirrel, a coyote, birds, dogs, and many many cats. She loved her animals, but loved her grandchildren even more so. Grandma's house was the place to go when her "grands" wanted to spend the night away from home or just wanted to hang out and share some of the many snacks and treats her and grandpa would bring home from town.

Vivian and Bob loved going to the Black Hills for the Flea Market or to vacation with the grandkids at the many local sites. She was strong in her Catholic faith and you would often hear her telling someone that they "need to go to church". She left plenty of memories for so many people and touched so many hearts in her life. She was the go-to lady for anyone that had questions about family history or just history in general. Vivian always thought of others and made sure that she kept in touch with as many people as she could. She was always optimistic, even in the unexpected last few days of her life here in this world.

Vivian is survived by one brother, Ivan Le Compte, adopted sister, Virginia Traversie, one son, Thomas Smith (Terri), one nephew ,

Craig Le Compte, grandson, Hunter Smith, Grand-daughters, Bobbi Renae, Tomi Lynn,

Daryl Paige (Samuel Weleba), and Virginia Smith, and one great grandson, Brylee Thomas Weleba, along with many many other grandchildren,

nephews and nieces.

She is preceded in death by 9 of her brothers and one sister, husband Robert Smith, sons, Farrel and Darrel, and great grand-daughter, Aubree Anberlin Weleba.
