Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Vivian passed away on March 17, 2023 at Mobridge Hospital.

Vivian Arlene (Pleinis) Dietrich was born March 15, 1932, in Corson County SD to John and Anna (Hertel) Pleinis. She attended rural Hertel School through 8 th grade then continued living and working on the Pleinis family farm.

Vivian, like many of her family members, was musically inclined. She sang, played guitar. She also played drums in the Kadiddlehoppers. She was playing for a wedding dance where she met her future husband, Willie Dietrich. She received two engagement rings as the first was lost in a pasture while bringing in the milk cows and it was never found. They were married on April 21, 1952. They made their home at the Butte Farm in rural McLaughlin where they farmed and ranched and raised 3 children. After retiring from farm life they moved to Mobridge in September of 2004 where Vivian was still residing at the time of her passing.

Vivian enjoyed gardening for many years. She and Willie liked listening and dancing to the family group, the West River Wranglers. She liked sewing and quilt making as well. She liked to fish too and earned the nick name of "Black Cloud" from her brother-in-law, Ron Cooley, because everyone in the boat caught fish except her. She was an excellent cook and her family enjoyed many home cooked meals over the years. She was especially good at making German food. Vivian worked outside of the home as well. For many years she worked at the M & M Cleaners in McLaughlin SD and then at the Dew Drop Inn in Mahto. In the later years she loved to play cards and visit with her friends and family.

Vivian was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran in McLaughlin and was involved in many groups at the church. After moving to Mobridge, she became a member of Trinity Lutheran where she attended services. She was also involved in quilting at this church.

Vivian is survived by two daughters, Melinda Pudwill of Bismarck, ND and Karla (Layne) Gunderson of Mandan, ND; one son Kevin Dietrich of West Pueblo, CO; six grandchildren, Tocker (Melanie) Pudwill, Shelby (Casie) Pudwill, Claude (StarAnn) Hier, Farren (Scott) Eisenbeisz, Jakob Dietrich and Matthew Dietrich; eight great grandchildren, and one great, great, grandchild; sisters Eunice Schulz, Margaret Kirschenmann, Colleen McGarry, June (Earl) Martell, Sharon (Brian) Beeson, Diana Cooley; brothers Roland (Evie) Pleinis, Harlan (Geneva) Pleinis, Larry (Sis) Pleinis; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 53 years, one sister, Fernetta Adam and two brothers, Marvin Pleinis and Myren Pleinis.

Quoted from her great granddaughter, Kaylee, she described grandma Vivian as "Feistiest, most hard-working, independent, tell it how it is, sweetest lady I know."
