Mass of Christian Burial for Virginia "Tootsie" Lawrence age 74 of Mobridge will be at 10:30 AM, Monday, August 15, 2016 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mobridge. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. A Rosary service will be at 7 PM Sunday at Kesling Funeral Home. Tootsie passed away Thursday, August 11, 2016 at Mobridge Regional Hospital.
Virginia "Tootsie" Johnson was born February 3, 1942 in Elbowwoods, N.D. to Melvin and Eloise (Mandan) Johnson. She grew up in Mandaree N.D. and attended school at Stephan Mission. While attending school at Stephan she met Pepsi Lawrence, they married June 25, 1960 in Mandaree. To this union 4 children were born, Debbie, Kelvin, David and Staci.
Their first 6 years together were spent in Huron S.D. In 1966 they moved to Timber Lake where they spent the next 26 years in business forging lifelong friendships.
In 1991 Pepsi and Tootsie sold their business in Timber Lake and purchased the Fireside Supper Club in Mobridge. Later Tootsie became owner and operator of Tootsie's Last Chance and Casino.
Tootsie loved socializing and spent most of her time with her family and friends. She was such an avid conversationist and loved laughing and making jokes to see others smile. She had such a vigorous and outgoing personality who was a friend to all and cared about others well-being above her own.
Tootsie is survived by her 4 children Debbie (Larry) Wimmer of Mobridge, Kelvin (Patty) of Brandon, S.D., David (Jan) of Mobridge and Staci (Brian) Thompson of Mobridge. 13 Grandchildren: Jennifer Dietterle, Courtney Wimmer, Brooke Keegan, Megan Lawrence, Jolynn Lepkowski, Drew Lawrence, Whitney Lawrence, Cameron Lawrence, Currin Lawrence, Hannah Lawrence, Sarah Lawrence, Nathan Thompson, Lauren Thompson; and 10 Great- Grandchildren: Cruz and Blaize Dietterle, Lennox, Rocklyn and Rozlyn Smith, Mason and Bode Lawrence, Charlotte and Kathryn Lepkowski, and Payton Lawrence. 2 Brothers, James (Roseanne) Johnson, Ivan (Lisa) Johnson and 2 Sisters, Rosie Johnson and Diane Johnson.
Tootsie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years Pepsi Lawrence, her parents Melvin and Eloise Johnson, father and mother-in-law Clarence and Charlotte Lawrence. Her brothers Myron, Burney and Jarrett Johnson. Sister-in-law Betty Lawrence, niece Leva Lawrence and nephew Shannon Lawrence.
