Virginia Ruth Hinsz was born on March 16, 1934 at home by Mahto, SD, to Otto and Lydia (Stoecker) Schneider. Virginia and her brother, Norman, rode the train to grade school in Wakpala. She attended high school in McLaughlin, graduating in 1953.

Virginia married Clifferd Hinsz on November 7, 1954, in McLaughlin. They made their home in McLaughlin on the farm. While on the farm she raised a lot of chickens, geese and ducks. She was a hard working lady, helping Clifferd in the fields, making big meals for the help and butchering her animals to sell. Clifferd passed away on February 18, 1995. After Clifferd passed away she worked cleaning homes. Virginia remained on the family farm until 2014. For the last three years Virginia has been under the loving care of the staff at the Mobridge Care Center.

Virginia also followed her children in their growing up years in sports and rodeo. She always had the motor home packed and clothes ironed so they were ready for a weekend of rodeo. Virginia was such a giving person to her children and many others. She liked to fly. So she did a lot of traveling with her husband when he traveled with Moreau Grand Electric from 1980 to 1994.

Virginia is a lifelong member of the United Church of Christ where she served as chairman and sang in the choir. In her younger years she was very active with the Ladies Aid and the McLaughlin Hospital Auxiliary. She always enjoyed playing cards especially, Pinochle and Head and Foot.

Virginia is survived by her children, Susan (George) Mortenson of Little Eagle, Carl (Karen) Hinsz of McLaughlin, Linda (Chet) Helmey of Buffalo, SD, and Christ (Sharon) Hinsz of Hermosa, SD, 11 grandchildren, Lee (Alysha) Mortenson, James (Holly) Mortenson, Amanda (Drew) Hermes, Matthew (Mica) Mortenson, Sarah (Garth) Swenson, Shawn (Jayne) Hinsz, Robin Hinsz (Chris Bollinger), Tait (Jil) Helmey, Chessa Sell, Jamie (Erik) Grabow, Shane (Jessica) Hinsz, 27 great grandchildren, two sisters, Donna (Chuck) Rayburn of Fresno, CA, and Marilyn (Al) Aaland of Spokane, WA.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clifferd, granddaughter, Gailup Hinsz, brothers, Donald and Norman Schneider, and a sister, Shirley Bauder.
