Funeral services for Virgil Vojta, age 87, of Mound City will be at 10 AM, Friday, Sept. 2, 2011 at Norway Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be from 1-5 PM Thursday at the funeral home with a prayer service at 7 PM at the church. Virgil passed away Monday, August 29, 2011 at the Mobridge Regional Hospital.
Virgil E. Vojta was born December 14, 1923 to Arthur and Mae (Anderson) Vojta in Campbell County. He attended Knudson Country School, Mobridge High School and Java High School but due to Virgil's father getting sick Virgil left school to help take care of the farm.
He married Maxine Mitzel on April 2, 1942 in Selby and in 1945 they moved to San Francisco where he worked in the shipyards. While in California he was drafted so the family moved back to Mound City. In March 1945 Virgil served in World War II in the US Army and was honorably discharged in August 1946. Upon his discharge Virgil worked for the county for a short time but his love for farming was where he wanted to be and continued farming until the time of his death.
Virgil was a member of the Norway Lutheran Church, Mobridge American Legion, ASCS Office, and Selby Masons. He also served on the Mound City School Board and the board at Herreid Equity Coop. He enjoyed hunting deer, pheasants and enjoyed raising chickens on the farm.
Virgil is survived by his wife Maxine Vojta of Mound City, children, Donna "Snooks" (Jerome) Kosel of Mobridge, Jackie (Jim) Severson of Sioux Falls, Jeff Vojta of Juniata, NE, and Mark (Myrtis) Vojta of Herreid, 18 grandchildren, and 31 great grandchildren, two brothers Jordan (Alieta) Vojta of Richland, WA and Norman Vojta of Boulder, CO, two sisters Violet Martin of Mobridge and Joyce Schlepp of Longmont, CO.
He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Peggy Richter, son-in-law Charles Richter, brothers Edo Vojta and Marshall Vojta, great grandson, Cody Milliken, brothers-in-law Lawrence Schlepp and Wilburt Martin, sisters-in-law Irene Vojta and Alvina Vojta.
Casketbearers will be Wendy Davidson, Melissa Richter, Toby Severson, Todd Severson, Anthony Vojta, Michael Vojta, Kevin Kosel, and Travis Vojta.
Honorary bearers will be all Virgil's friends and family that are attending services.
