Memorial services for Violet Rodenburg, age 90, of Mound City, SD will be 2:00 PM Monday, May 23, 2011 at Norway Lutheran Church with Pastor Dennis Fonkert officiating. Prayer service will be 7:30 PM Sunday, May 22, 2011 at Kesling Funeral Home. Violet passed away Thursday, May 19, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Center in Selby, SD. Kesling Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Violet Grace Schuetzle was born April 17, 1921 to Edward and Lydia (Ritter) Schuetzle in Campbell County. She attended grade school at the Titland Rural School and Mound City and graduates in 1939 from Herreid High School. She worked in Pierre, South Dakota and Colorado Springs, Colorado. In 1941 she moved to Los Angeles, California and worked in Defense Plants and in 1943 worked in Oakland, California for State Farm Insurance.
In 1945 she returned to Campbell County, South Dakota and married Willis Henry Rodenburg March 25, 1946 in Westfield, North Dakota. They lived on a farm in North Dakota until 1949, when they moved back to South Dakota and lived on a farm five miles Northwest of Mound City. In 1970 they moved into Mound City and retired from farming in 1981. They traveled through out the United States and the world. Willis passed away on November 3, 1983.
Violet was a member of the Norway Lutheran Church, taught Sunday school, on the Church board, a 4-H leader for 25 years, 4-H county treasurer over 20 years. She belonged and held offices in many other organizations throughout Campbell County.
She is survived by two daughters, Vicki (Rodger) Kruger of Lakewood, CO, Roxann (Gene) Zimmerman of Phoenix, AZ, her son, Mark of Littleton, CO, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willis, two brothers, Milton and Hilmer, and a grandson in infancy.
