Violet Virginia (Vojta) Martin
Violet V. Martin, 88, of Mobridge SD, died Thursday, October 15, at Mobridge Regional Hospital.
She was born August 4, 1927, to Arthur O. and Mae H. (Anderson) Vojta. She was born and raised on the family farm near Mound City, SD.
She attended country school grades 1-8, Mobridge High School her freshman year and graduated from Java High School in 1944. She went to summer school at Northern Normal (now Northern State University) and taught country school for one year.
On November 3, 1945, she and Wilburt H. "Bud" Martin were married in Aberdeen, SD. They made their first home in Aberdeen. Mrs. Martin stayed with her family in rural Mound City when her husband served in the US Army from 1946-1947.
The Martins lived in Herreid, SD for 15 years, from 1948 to 1963, where Mrs. Martin was a homemaker, active in her children's school and 4-H activities, gardening, the Congregational Church and other community organizations.
They moved to Rapid City, SD in 1963 and in 1969 moved to Longmont, CO, where they made their home for 33 years. In August, 2002, the Martins moved to Mobridge, SD.
When the children were older, she ran a restaurant in Herreid and in Rapid City for a short period and also worked part time for a newspaper in Longmont, CO. She was active in her churches women and mission organizations and supported her husband's work by leading Junior Club activities for many years. She enjoyed reading, ceramics, oil painting, her flower garden and sewing. She took great and caring pleasure in her family, friends and church.
Survivors include daughters Ginny Prasek (Bill Bierman) of Inver Grove Heights MN, Jeanette (Gary) Weiland of Glenham SD, Karen (Tim Munger) Martin of Fort Collins CO, and sons Raymond (Lorri Jordan) of Cheyenne WY, and Richard (Robin) of Greeley CO; eleven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren; sister Joyce Schlepp and brother Norman Vojta, of Longmont CO; and many nieces and nephews who have been so loving and attentive. She is also survived by eight step-grandchildren and their families.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and 4 brothers Marshall Vojta, Edo Vojta, Virgil Vojta and Jordan Vojta.
Memorial services will be Saturday, October 24, 2:00 PM, with visitation 2 hours prior, at the Family Worship Center in Mobridge SD. Rev. Paul Hathaway officiating. The grandchildren, who were so special to their grandmother, are Honorary Bearers: Danell Kalcevic, Renee Larson, Katie Earhart, Sarah Prasek, Stacey Cranwill, Jeremy Martin, Nathan Prasek, Nathan Martin, Kendra Martin, Stephanie Larson and Mariah Cherniss. Burial of cremains will be at a later date in the Greenwood Cemetery.
