Memorial services for Viola O. Stugelmeyer age 88, of Aberdeen formerly of McLaughlin will be at 2 PM, Friday, March 7, 2014 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. Funeral services will be 10 AM MT March 8, 2014 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in McLaughlin. Burial will be in the Redeemer Lutheran Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Viola passed away Monday, March 3, 2014 at Manor Care in Aberdeen.
Viola O. Stugelmeyer was born on January 19, 1926 in McLaughlin, SD to Adam and Magdalena (Kranzler) Martel. She grew up and attended school in McLaughlin.
Viola married Leonard Stugelmeyer on October 24, 1943 in McLaughlin. Two sons were born to this union, Duane and Dennis. They made their home on a farm east of McLaughlin where she helped Leonard with the daily activities involved with farming. In 1966 they moved into McLaughlin and worked at the school as custodians, retiring in 1987. While in McLaughlin she was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and was very active in the Ladies Aid group. In 2001 Viola moved to Aberdeen where she has since resided. Since living in Aberdeen she became a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where she was involved in the quilting group.
Viola enjoyed sewing, doing artwork and crafts. She made numerous dolls and quilts.
Viola is survived by two sons, Duane (Valarie) Stugelmeyer of Hermitage, TN and Dennis (Karen) Stugelmeyer of Lindsborg, KS, four grandchildren, Shauna (Mike) Bowser of Pittsburgh, PA, Derek Stugelmeyer of Honolulu, HI, Scott Stugelmeyer of Tacoma, WA and Brian Stugelmeyer of Olympia, WA, two great grandsons, Ayden and Grayson Bowser, one sister, Elsie Siedschlaw of Billings, MT.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Leonard in 2000, three brothers, Albert Martell, Eugene Martell, and Helmuth Martel, one sister, Edna Bruse, three brothers and three sisters in infancy.
