Funeral services for Vincent Thompson, age 65, of Timber Lake, will be at 10 AM, MT, Friday, April 27, 2012 at the Timber Lake Community Center. Burial will be at the Timber Lake Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Wake services will start at 7 PM MT Thursday at the community center. Vincent passed away, Sunday, April 22, 2012 at the Eagle Butte IHS Hospital.
Vincent Floyd Thompson was born on October 22, 1946 to Max and Irene "Phoebe" (Handboy) Thompson at Cheyenne River Old Agency. He attended school at Old Cheyenne Agency Boarding School. In 1985 he did acquire his GED. Then in 1966, he went to Job Corps in Texas for heavy machinery. After completing Job Corps, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his tour of duty in the Vietnam War. He was discharged a couple years later.
In 1970 he met Ramona (Paulette) Traversie and to this union the couple had six children. As the family and children grew, there were numerous moves from town to town to find work. In 1983 he made the families final move to Timber Lake, SD. Vincent worked for the CRST Housing Authority as maintenance supervisor in the Timber Lake district. The couple separated in 1991.
In February 1992 Vincent married Marilyn Grage. Together they made their home in Timber Lake until her death in 2009. He continued to live in Timber Lake until 2011, when he moved to Mobridge due to health reasons.
Vincent will be remembered by everyone who knew him for his smile, laughter, singing, joking nature, sense of humor, his love for life and for helping when a friend was in need. He loved driving mains and enjoying his company that stopped to reminisce. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, dad, grandfather and soon to be great grandfather.
He is survived by his mother, Irene "Phoebe" Thompson, his only son, Troy Thompson (Torrie and TJ); daughters, Effie (Ty) Knodel (Adrienne and Trent); Stacie (Andy) Harman (Vance and Kasidi); Deirdre Thompson (Tyrel and Blake); and Vanette Thompson all of Mobridge, SD; stepsons, Deb Allen (Heidi) Ducheneaux; Wally (Jackie) Grage; and Kerry (Kristy) Grage; sisters, Julie (Stan Sulzle) Weninger; Ethel "Tessie" Schatz; Grace Thompson; Hilda (Tom) Ducheneaux; and Althea (Lawrence) Cheauma; brother, David "Butch" (Judy) Thompson and Larry (Renee) Thompson, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and grandchildren.
Vincent was preceded in death by his father Max Thompson, Sr., daughter Hope Andrea, wife Marilyn, brothers Dale, Jackie Jo, Casey, Max Jr., and Dallas, sisters Andrea and Louise.
