Funeral services for Verona Oster, 94, of Selby, SD, will be at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at the UCC Church in Selby. Burial will be at the Selby Memorial Gardens under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Verona passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2016, at Mobridge Regional Hospital of Mobridge, SD.

Verona Loretta (Schutz) Oster was born in McPherson County to Gottlieb and Emma (Guthmiller) Schutz on August 11, 1921. She moved with her family West River at the age of 5. She grew up there and attended school until he 8th grade. Verona worked at Elfrinks Super Value Store and Rempfers Store in Isabel.

Verona married John P. Oster in 1945 in Mobridge. They made their home in Dupree where she managed the grocery store with her husband. While in Dupree she was a member of the UCC Church and Merifu Extension Club. They retired in 1975 and moved to Selby. In Selby she was a member of the UCC Church, Senior Citizens and Town and Country Club. Verona moved into the Selby Good Samaritan Center in December of 2011 where she has since resided.

Verona liked to sew, do crafts, help in the store, bake, take care of her family, and volunteer at the Good Samaritan Center making cards.

Verona is survived by her daughter, Arlene (Robbin) Hermsen of LeMars, IA, grandson, Kory Hermsen of Alta IA, and special friend, Virlene (Arlie) Skillingstad of Selby.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Husband, John, son, Wayne, two brothers and two sisters.
