Obituary
Graveside services for Verna Goldade, age 87, of Mobridge will be Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at 1PM at Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge, SD. Visitation will be from 10 AM to 1PM at Kesling Funeral Chapel. Verna passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Center in Selby, SD.
Verna (Greger, Holzwarth) Goldade was born on September 19, 1925 and died at Good Samaritan Living Center in Selby, SD on November 20, 2012.
Verna was born September 19, 1925 to John and Emma Greger. She was married to Bill Holzwarth in 1948 and they had one daughter Arlinda. They lived in Mound City until 1956 then they moved to Mobridge where Verna worked at the Tas Tee Bakery for 14 years. In 1967 she married Antone Goldade. She then went to work in the laundry room at the Mobridge Hospital until she retired at the age of 73.
Verna loved to bake, work on her yard and garden. Her daughter has many fond memories of her mom and her baking cookies over the Thanksgiving weekend. Verna loved to sing at the nursing homes as she did with a few of her friends and they did some of the songs in German. Some of her hobbies were crocheting, embroidery, playing cards and dancing.
When Verna first went into the Nursing home she would walk all night and day and the nurses had a bucket in the nurses station that had candy and especially snickers since she loved them the best. They would give her some of the candy at night to keep her strength up.
She will be remembered as a person who worked hard and did things for people when they asked without question. Her daughter remembers many times that she had to follow her mom through the house to talk to her when she was home to visit cause she was always busy doing things. She loved it when she lived with daughter to take their two dogs for a walk and they loved her.
She is survived by her daughter Arlinda Holzwarth and special friend Stanley Durston of Pierre, SD, one sister Agnes Rieger and one brother Elmer Greger both of Bowdle, SD , many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and 1 brother.
