Funeral services for Verna Viola (Isaak) Ford will be Monday, Dec. 13, 2010 at Peace Lutheran Church in Herreid, SD. Visitation will be held Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010 starting at 6:00 with a prayer service starting at 8:00 PM at the church. Burial will be at the Mound City Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Mrs. Ford passed away on Dec. 8 at St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck, ND.

Verna Viola Ford was born near Pollock, SD on May 23, 1922 to Henry & Wilhelnena (Albright) Isaak. Verna & Erwin Ford were married on October 7, 1939 and lived around the Herreid area for approximately 30 years and then moved to Mobridge, SD for 30 years. 11 years ago they moved back to Herreid, residing at the Herreid Apartments until November 2010 when they moved into the Good Samaritan Assisted Living Center. Their first years in Herreid were spent raising their two children along with her youngest brother Henry (Hank) and her sister Arlene. Later Verna worked at the Herreid Bowling Center and Herreid Hospital. While in Mobridge Verna worked at the Mobridge Hospital and Mobridge Retirement Center. Verna and Erwin enjoyed making quilts for family and Lutheran missions. She was a faithful member of the Peace Lutheran Church.

Verna enjoyed one week at the Good Samaritan Home before her illness overtook her. Her greatest love was her husband Erwin and family. As in life, and as she neared death she had the gift of kindness. Always speaking well of everyone and always a thank you, even to the nurses and doctor as they performed their service.

She leaves her beloved husband Erwin of 71 years, her daughter, Lois (Bales) Johnson of Hartford, SD and her children and grandchildren, Brad (Sally) Bales, and children, Brittney (Eric) Rick, Colin, Chris, and Aaron Bales of Bismarck, ND, Rev. John (Sheri) Bales, and children, Whitney and Brennen Bales of Epcondedo, CA, Lynette (Rick) Coker, and children, Josiah and Rachel Aberson of Hartford, SD, and Jenny (Brian) and daughter, Morgan Hammer of Rogers, MN. Her daughter, Joyce (John) Ochsner of Herreid, SD and their children and grandchildren, Roger (Heather) and children, Justin, and Erica Ochsner of New London, MN, Rhonda (Chad), and daughter, Hanna Masters of Aberdeen, SD, and Russ Ochsner of Aberdeen, SD, Two sisters are Violet Lutz of Rogers, MN and Arlene Boyd of Oregon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers; Art, Ray and Henry Jr. (Hank) and one sister Gertrude.

Verna leaves a great legacy of loving, kindness, faith, and appreciation of Life and Family. We will miss our dear wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and expected great great grandmother.
