Obituary

Funeral services for Verlys Red Dog Antelope age 63 of Missoula, MT will be 10:00 AM Friday, April 22, 2016 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Ft. Yates, ND. Burial will be in the St. John's Episcopal Cemetery in Bullhead SD under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the church. Verlys passed away Monday, April 18, 2016 at St. Patrick's Hospital in Missoula.

Verlys Antelope Reddog, 63, passed away at St. Patrick's Hospital in Missoula, MT on April 18, 2016,

Verlys was born in Fort Yates, ND on October 20, 1952 to Ben Antelope, Sr. and Mary Ellen Little Eagle Antelope.

Verlys was a very intelligent person. She attended National Cathedral High School in Washington, DC and graduated with a high school diploma from Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, NM. She received 4 year degree in Elementary Education and a Masters Degree in Education Administration from the University of North Dakota. She was a participant in the Teacher Training Project and Project Ideal. She loved to learn and in her later years, she received a Masters Degree in Social Work (MSW) from Walla Walla College, Washington State.

She taught kindergarten through High School classes. She was an assistant Principal at Standing Rock Elementary School. She also was a High School Principal at Sho-Ban High School in Fort Hall, ID. Among her many other jobs, she worked as a language arts teacher, daycare director and GED Instructor.

She is survived by two sons, Wesley Rich and Benji Reddog; Two grandchildren, Jade Marie Rich and Michael Benjamin Rich; her sisters Margaret (Wayne) Smith, Chubbuck, ID; Cynthia Antelope, Selfridge, ND; two brothers Ben Antelope, Jr., Albuquerque, NM; and Nathan Antelope, Chubbuck, ID. She is also survived by nieces Stephanie Smith, Fort Hall, ID; Natalie Smith, Chubbuck, ID; and nephews Alex Smith, Chubbuck, ID; Anthony Lohnes, Fort Totten, ND; James Lohnes, Minneapolis, MN; Cody Demery, Selfridge, ND. Also, another grandson, Trevyn Shay, Fort Hall, ID.

She is preceded in death by one son, Michael David Pearman; one sister, Marilyn Lorraine Antelope; her Mother and Father; paternal grandparents, Albert Antelope and Bessie Bullghost Antelope; and maternal grandparents, Alex Little Eagle and Margaret Derockbraine Little Eagle.
