Memorial services for Verene Faehnrich, 89, of Mobridge will be at 4 PM, Saturday, July 24, 2021, at Kesling Funeral Home in Mobridge. A memorial visitation will begin at 3 PM Saturday. Verene passed away Saturday, July 17, 2021, at her home in Mobridge.

Some knew her as Verene, but most people called her Grandma. She loved a cup of coffee, a card game at the kitchen table, a Twins game or country music playing in the background.

Verene Elizabeth Darlene Roebuck was born on February 2, 1932 to Jake and Dorothy Roebuck. She grew up on a farm near Glenham with four brothers and three sisters. Verene graduated from Glenham High School.

One day, while waitressing in Mobridge at the American Café, she accidentally spilled coffee creamer on a customer who was in Mobridge for work. His name was George Faehnrich. He was not happy, but he didn't stay mad for long, because on August 26, 1950, George and Verene were married. She was blessed with 13 children, eight boys and five girls. Turns out, that number made a good baseball team. Verene loved caring for others and was a hard-working woman! She was a wonderful cook, sewed clothes for the kids, was the family hairdresser, and even pierced the girls' ears. Then, as her children grew up and had kids of their own, her role as "Grandma" began where she helped raise many of her grandchildren.

Faith was the focus of Verene's life. On August 23, 1957, Verene was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. She was not afraid to tell others about the God whom she loved. Verene's close relationship with Him is what got her through any trial that she faced in life, and it is that faith that continues to help others that knew and loved her to deal with the loss of such a remarkable woman.

Verene is survived by her sister Dorothy Hawkins; her children, Steve (Penny) Faehnrich, Georgina Schwinn, Kathy While, Debbie (Mark) Cunningham, George Faehnrich, Brad (Diane) Faehnrich, Greg (Margie) Faehnrich, Doug Faehnrich (Pam), Gwen Faehnrich (JoAnn), Lisa Munk; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren who will dearly miss her.

Verene is preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; two sisters; her husband, George; three sons, Mike, Jim, and Art; one son-in-law, JW, and two great-granddaughters, Laisha While and Pepper Kasik.
