Travis
Johnson
May 16, 1978 – September 1, 2018
Celebration of Life for Travis Johnson age 40 of Mobridge will be 7:00 PM Thursday, October 11, 2018 at Kesling Funeral Home Chapel. Inurnment will be in the Mobridge City Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Travis passed away Saturday, Sept. 1, 2018 at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen.
Travis Steve Johnson was born May16, 1978 in Cheyenne, WY to Gloria Renea Johnson and Steve Gracia.
In 1981, Travis along with his mother and two sisters made the trip to Mobridge, SD. Mobridge was Travis's home town from 1981 until his unexpected death September 1, 2018.
Travis attended Wakpala Head Start, Freeman Davis Grade School, and Mobridge High School up until the 8 th grade. While in high school he participated in cross country. He liked to hang out with friends, ride his bike, and watch TV.
His first job was with the Summer Youth program. Then in 1995 he started working at the Wheel Family Restaurant, as a dishwasher/waiter. Travis enjoyed working there, earning his own money and meeting lots of different people. In 2001 his health started to decline. This was around the same time of his older sister, Tonie Eveland's death. In September 2008, his mother passed away. This was hard on Travis.
Travis's health problems started at birth. He was born with a hole in heart the size of an egg which required many surgeries. In 2001, he received his first pacemaker which helped him continue to do the things he enjoyed doing, like driving his prized possession, the 1993 green Grand AM. You could always find him washing and polishing it to make it shine. He enjoyed taking it on out of town trips to Aberdeen, Bismarck, and Gillette, Wyoming.
Travis enjoyed going to coffee in the evenings at Lucky's Gas-N-More with his friend Roger Nordstrom. He also enjoyed playing pool, which he was pretty good at.
Travis was taught by his grandmother that you work hard in life to get the things you want. His mother taught him that life is what you make of it and you don't blame anyone else for how your life may work out!!!
Travis is survived by his sister, Dawn Johnson of Mobridge, and half-brothers, Jay (Sherri) Johnson of Gillette, WY, Donnie Johnson, half-sister, Samantha Hatton of Gillette, WY, grandmother, Edna Huber of Rapid City, many nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles and close friends.
Travis was preceded in death by his mother, Gloria in 2008, his older sister, Tonie in 2001, and his grandfather, George Huber.
