Obituary

Funeral services for Thomas Long Feather, age 50, of McLaughlin will be at 1 PM CT, Monday, October 14, 2013 at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church. Burial will be at the church cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. A wake service will be held from 7-11 PM, Sunday at the McLaughlin Blue Gym. Thomas passed away Thursday, October 3, 2013 at St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck.

Thomas Everette Long Feather Jr., was born October 8, 1962 at the old hospital in Fort Yates, N.D., to Thomas (Sr.) and Edith (Dog Eagle) Long Feather.
Tom entered the spirit world, (exactly 37 years to the day of his baby brother, James William) October 3, 2013 at St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck, N.D.
In 1977, Tom graduated 8th grade from Little Eagle Day School; that fall he attended Standing Rock Community High School. Tom returned to McLaughlin Public School and later received his G.E.D. and attended Standing Rock Community College.
Tom worked several different jobs throughout his life such as a Firefighter for the BIA Standing Fire department in Fort Yates, Emergency Vehicle Operator for the Standing Rock Ambulance Service, a Bus Driver/Custodian for the Standing Rock Headstart Program, a Porter at Prairie Knights Casino and the last job he held (more his dream job) was a SD Maintenance worker for the Standing Rock Housing Authority, a job he proudly held for 13 years.

He was an avid outdoorsman from the time his dad took him on his first hunting trip until the time of his passing; his dad taught him everything from walking the draws to cleaning onto the right techniques of being the great softball player he was. Tom loved hunting with all his brothers and most recently passing on his knowledge to his nephews. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing softball, horseshoes, shooting pool, visiting with family & friends.

The highlight of Tom's life was playing with the Trail City "Blazers"; the Blazers won many local softball tourneys, in 1994 they won the SD State Softball Tourney in Pierre, SD and went on to the World Finals in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
Tom adored his three grandsons, he loved spending time with them and they, too, will forever miss their "Papa".

Tom leaves behind three daughters Thomasine, Marietta, Gertie; one son Mason; mother Edith; four sisters Ann (Verdell), Melinda (Bill), Cheryl, Lila (Roman); Nephews Saul, Ronald Jr., Samuel; Nieces Sierra, Kelsey, Ashley, Laura, Romaira, Romani; three grandsons Taylon, Dorian, Kaleb; Uncles Vernon Iron Cloud, Henry Takes The Gun; Aunt Evelyn Uses Arrow.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Margaret; Dad Tom Sr., Brothers Sam, Ron, James William, Niece Sadie, Uncles Arnold Dog Eagle, Isaac Dog Eagle, Sr., Emmette Long Feather, Llewellyn Uses Arrow; Aunts Lillian Dog Eagle, Irene Martinez, Matilda Long Feather , Delma Little Dog and many, many relatives.
