Funeral services for Theodora LeCompte Rolette, age 79 of Flagstaff, AZ. will be Friday January 21, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Kesling Funeral Home in Mobridge. Burial will be McLaughlin City Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home. Cedric Good House and Cedric Good House Jr. will be conducting services. Theodora LeCompte was born on April 13, 1931 to Dennis and Geniva (Roubideaux) LeCompte in Wakpala. She grew up in the Wakpala area and attended Haskell Indian Vocational Jr. College before moving to Los Angeles in 1959. While in L.A. she worked for the LA Times and the Housing Authority. After leaving LA Theodora lived in Mobridge, Aberdeen and Bellevue, WA before moving to Flagstaff, AZ where she has since resided.
Theodora had many accolades. She was a representative for HUD (Housing and Urban Development), which took her many times to Washington, DC. She was also president of the Mission Plaza Tenant Association.
Theodora enjoyed helping people, listening to classical music, watching westerns, operas, visiting with Native American people and her time she was able to spent in Washington state.
She is survived by sons, Gregory Shawn Rolette of Los Angeles and Andy Stewart of Gamaliel, AR; daughters, Michelle Metzler of Arvada, CO, Robbin Rolette of Flagstaff, AZ, Emma Whalen of Pine Ridge, SD, and Raven J. Webb of Southern CA, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren including, Domini Nwaeke of Northridge, CA, Morning Star and Desiree Mitchell of Flagstaff, Troy Whalen of Pine Ridge and Myron Shaw of Pine Ridge.
She is preceded in death by her parents, son, Daniel Joseph LeCompte, Brother, Dennis Delbert LeCompte, and sister, Wanda LeBeau.
Casketbearers will be Gregory Rolette, Michael LeCompte, Myron Shaw, and Darrell Red Shirt.
