Funeral services for Linus "Terry" Flying By 59 of Little Eagle will be 11:00 AM Monday March14, 2022 at the Blue Gym in Little Eagle. Burial will be in the Elkhorn UCC cemetery in Little Eagle under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. A prayer service will begin at 7:00PM Sunday, March 13, 2022 at the Blue Gym.

Terry was born June 30, 1962 in Fort Yates, ND to Joseph and Irene (Foster) Flying By. Terry grew up in Little Eagle and attended the Little Eagle Day School until he graduated the 8 ^th grade, then he went to McCrossan Boys Ranch in Sioux Falls, SD, until he graduated from the 12 ^th grade at Lincoln High School in Sioux Falls. He also attended school in Mitchell, SD taking up welding and received his welding certificate.

In September of 1992 Terry begas his life in Eagle Butte, SD. He was my companion for 27 years and helped me raise my daughter Nellie as his own since she was only 2 when we got together. Robert and Randall, Jr. were the sons that he taught many things and learned along with. He was a great part of my families Hocho Ka and participated in Sundance and traditional ways. Along with this he had a very good heart and looked out for many people. We were blessed with a son named Joseph Mato Wanbi Flying By who is our pride and joy. Our lives began to go our separate ways in 2020 but we continued to get along for our son and he always looked out for us. I would like to thank the many people who knew Terry and was a part of his life.  Lena

Terry was a very humble man, he helped a lot of family, friends and relatives without hesitation. He lnever asked for anything in return. Terry was known for his humor, he taught by action rather than words. He also believed in the traditional ways and always participated in Sun Dances. He also made many pipes, beaded sticks, staffs and other crafts. Some he gifted to people.

He is survived by two sons; Joseph Flying By and Lyndell Pleets. A daughter; heather Taken Alive, Step children; Randall Bear Eagle, Earl Grindstone Jr., Robert Grindstone and Nellie Grindstone. Three brothers; Allen Flying By, Wilbur Flying By Sr. and Russell Flying By. Three sisters; Eloise Flying By, Phyliss White and Dawn Standing Crow. Hunka brothers; DeArmon, Ed Waltz, Mark Morris, Bob Galetka, Charles Murphy and Terry Yellow Fat. Hunka sisters; Deb and Linus Grey Eagle. Also many nieces and nephews.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, two sisters; Mercy Flying By, and Della Uses Arrow. Brothers; Moses Flying By, Aljoe Flying By, Elvis Flying By, adopted brother Bob Gadwa. Also a daughter Tara Lee White.
