Funeral services for Susan Rice, 68, of Rural Mobridge will be at 11 AM, Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at Kesling Funeral Home in Mobridge. Burial will be at the Rice Family Cemetery. Visitation will start at 6 PM Tuesday with a prayer service at 7 PM at the funeral home. Susan passed away Thursday, May 14, 2026, at the Mobridge Regional Hospital. 

The funeral service will be livestreamed.

Susan Diane Rice was born on January 23, 1958, in Yakima, Washington to Donald and Barbara Nelson.

Susan attended Queets School in Washington State until the 8th grade, then went on to graduate from Lake Quinault High School in Washington State in 1976.

In the Spring of 1979, Susan met Clayton and moved to South Dakota where they married on October 13, 1979, and was blessed with an amazing 47 years, three kids, ten grandkids, one great grandchild and one more on the way.

Susan spent her life working the family ranch her and Clayton built. Along the way, Susan also worked several years at the Wakpala School, Little Eagle Grant School and the McLaughlin School as a cook. She was predominately an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and friend her whole life.

Susan was also grateful for her dear friends Sweenie Mowrer and Mary Jane Anderson, who stood by her side with love, friendship and support through life’s challenges. She was blessed with many wonderful friendships throughout her life.

Susan was preceded in death by her father Donald, mother Barbara and her brother, David Nelson.

Susan is survived by her husband Clayton Rice, children, Becky (Travis) Swezey, Lesli (B.J.) Blom, Daniel Rice (Erica Laundreaux), grandkids, Brendon, Rehana, Parker, Brayden, Averi, Cody, Rayden, SkyeAnn, ToriEllen, Esmae, Darryn, great granddaughter, Wrenley and her sisters, Lorri Nelson and Janice Brockavich.
