Steven Bryan "Soup" Silk, 57 of Cannon Ball passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2022 at his home. Services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, January 14, 2023 at the Cannon Ball Red Gym. Burial will be held at Old Scout Cemetery in Cannon Ball, ND under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. A wake service begins at 7:00 pm, Friday, January 13 at the Cannon Ball Red Gym. A procession will leave from Kesling Funeral Home at 4:00 pm on Friday the 13 th .
Soup was born on February 28. 1965 in Oakland, California to Audrey and Jimmy Silk. He lived in California his early years and then moved back to Ft. Yates, ND where he lived with his grandma Pearl until his adult years. He then moved to Cannon Ball with his mom, Audrey where he enjoyed growing up in Big Lake with his Fast Horse Family. He attended Pierre Boarding School in his early years. His high school years he attended Standing Rock High and Solen High School. While in high school he played basketball, baseball, track and football. As an adult he enjoyed playing horse shoes, fishing, hunting and 8 ball pool.
While working towards his goals and accomplishments, he went on to meet MaDonna Red Bear in 1994. From then on, he had his only son, born July 1 st , 1998 who he named Devin Ace. Four years later, his baby girl was born on October 3, 2002 who he named Brashel MerLaine.
Soup was very proud of being the first DJ on Standing Rock. He had 3 DJ's working for him at one time while he did "Soups Music Express". He sponsored golf players, basketball, horse shoes, pool players, proms, weddings, Standing Rock Housing Dinners, birthdays and anniversaries. He has a record for most dances at Prairie Knights Casino. He also had his own basketball team "The Boy", softball "Cannon Ball Young Guns" and a bowling team.
Soup worked many jobs which included: Tim's Conoco, Onyx Scoonervers Construction Operator, Solen High School, SRST Kiddie College, Prairie Knights Casino and Standing Rock Housing Authority as a heavy equipment operator until he got West Nile and had to retire from the job. He served on many boards including Solen School Board, EPA Board, Cannon Ball Planning Commission, Game and Fish Board and Cannon Ball Powwow Committee.
Soup is survived by his two children, Devin and Brashel Silk, adopted mom, Blanche Lawrence. Siblings, Samuel B. Silk Sr, Henry "Hank" Silk, Larry Brownotter, Lisa Black Hoop, Danielle Maxon, Miranda Silk, Pearl Wallace and Angel Silk. Siblings listed are the ones we know about. Anyone left off, was not intentional. Soup was preceded in death by his mom Audrey Black Hoop, Grandpa Sam Fast Horse Sr, Grandma Cecelia Martin, Grandma Pearl Tatoo, Gramps Steve Silk Sr, Ant Delphine Plenty Chief, Aunt Mary Ireland, Aunt Evangeline Fast Horse, Uncles, Fred and Fenton Fast Horse, Mike Ireland, Duane Martin, Brothers, Shane Cotton Wood, Sonny Boy Black Hoop, James "Moogie" Silk, Mitchell Silk, Adopted Dad Wallace Thunder Hawk, Adopted Mom Annie "Toots" Thunder Hawk and Adopted Mom Lavonne Jones.
