Funeral services for Shirley Sauer, age 73, of Mobridge will be at 10 AM CT, Monday, April 11, 2011 at Kesling Funeral Home in Mobridge. Burial will be at 3 PM MT on Monday at Black Hills National Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome to attend a visitation which will be held Sunday, April 10th from 5-7 pm CT at the Funeral Home. Shirley passed away Thursday, April 7, 2011 at the Mobridge Regional Hospital.
Shirley Elaine (Borah) Sauer was born March 27, 1938 to Frank and Maggie Borah in McLaughlin, SD. She was united in marriage to Wayne E. Sauer, January 19, 1963 in McLaughlin, SD.
Shirley and Wayne resided in Carson, ND from 1963-1965 then moved to McIntosh, SD, where they lived until 2008. They moved to Mobridge SD, after Shirley suffered a severe stroke and was placed in the Mobridge Golden Living Center.
Shirley worked as a telephone operator at the Bell Telephone Company in McLaughlin, SD prior to her marriage.
Shirley's love of children showed immensely through her dedication of providing daycare for numerous children in the McIntosh area. Wayne and Shirley also provided a home for foster children for a number of years.
She loved to collect bells, angels and porcelain dolls. She was a great fan of country music and enjoyed singing along with her sisters and their guitars.
Shirley and Wayne's 48 year marriage blessed them with 3 children:
Annette (Charles) Tomac of Mandan, ND, Craig (Laura) Sauer of New Salem, ND and Stephanie Sauer of Mobridge, SD, 6 grandsons: Derek, Sheldon, Carter, Brady, Bailey, and Bodey and 5 granddaughters: Kaylin, Shantel, Molly, Ashlynn and Chelsea. She greatly cherised all 11 of her grandchilren. Shirley is also survived by one sister, Joan Pusich, of Cudahay, WI.
Shirley was preceeded in death by 1 infant son, John Wayne, her parents, Maggie and Frank Borah, 2 brothers, Bill Borah and Gene Borah, two sisters who died during childhood, Irene and Helen, and two sisters, Darlene McClain, and Allene (Allie) Laib.
