Funeral services for Shelby Rossow age 78 of Herreid will be at 10:30 AM, Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Peace Lutheran Church in Herreid. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will start at 5 PM, Friday at the church with a prayer service at 7 PM. Shelby passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at Good Samaritan Society of Herreid.

Shelby Jean Rossow was born on June 13, 1938 in Grand Rapids, MN, to Laurance and Lempi (Pehkonen) Garske. At the age of three, she moved with her family to Washington. Shelley graduated from Rochester High School in Rochester, WA in 1956. After graduation, she worked for Pacific Bell Phone Company in Washington before meeting Dennis Rossow, who was stationed at Ft. Lewis. Shelley and Dennis were married on October 17, 1958, in Centralia, WA. Following their marriage, they made their home on the Rossow family farm three miles south of Herreid. Although Dennis and Shelley continued to farm with Dwight and Cindi, they moved to town in 1981, where Shelley has since resided. Shelley remained involved in the family farming operation and took great pride in the fact that five generations of Rossows have farmed the land.

While living in Herreid, Shelley worked at the Super Stop and got to know many people. She was also a member of the Jaycee-ettes, Peace Lutheran Women and the election board. Shelley loved spending time with her friends and meeting new people. For many years, she traveled back to Washington in the month of August, to work at the SW Washington State Fair. This past summer, she was selected as a volunteer for the Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation, in Medora ND, and she was looking forward to going back next summer. She took pride in her yard and enjoyed working outdoors. Shelley loved her family. And she found great joy in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. "G'ma Shelley" will be missed by many. She was always there to encourage us and lend a helping hand. Her positive spirit and kindness will always be remembered.

Shelley is survived by her sons, Laurance (Reta) of Herreid, Dwight (Cynthia) of Herreid, Eric of Herreid, and Roger (Naomi) of Herreid, grandchildren, Steve Rossow, Larry (Robin) Rossow, Jason (Heather) Rossow, Josh (Dawn) Rossow, Wayne (Lisa) Rossow, Lisa (Colby) Kosel, Lane Rossow, Seth (Chantel) Murphy, Elizabeth (Colin) Pelton, and Emily (Josh) Vernlund, great- grandchildren, Payton Rossow, Brandon Rossow, Jacob Rossow, Karissa Rossow, Abigail Rossow, Courtney Rossow, Dennis Rossow, Maggie Kosel, Emmett Kosel, Jake Murphy, Ava Murphy, Scarlett Murphy and Nora Pelton, brother, Larry "Butch" (Cathy) Garske of Centralia, WA, sister Lorraine Maddox of Centralia, WA, brothers-in-law, Norman Vojta of Longmont, CO, and Ronald (Donna) Rossow of Herreid, several nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dennis in 2007, brother-in-law, Roger Maddox, and sister-in-law, Alvena Vojta.
