Shelby Tea Jayne Baker was born August 31, 1993 to Georgianne Baker and Keith Alkire in Bismarck, North Dakota. Shelby was a member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe (Hunkpapa) and was given the Lakota name Wiyaka Oste'steya Win. Shelby lived her first few years in Mobridge, SD and then the remainder of her childhood in Winnebago, Nebraska with her mother and three older sisters. She was "the baby" for almost six years before her first younger sibling was born, and she would later become the big sister to five younger siblings. Eventually her family relocated to Kenel, South Dakota where she grew up as a teenager and young adult. Shelby was the mother of Tea Jayne Vazquez-Baker, born to her and David Vazquez. Shelby was the amazing mother, daughter, sister, friend and grand daughter. Shelby was a vibrant soul and loved everyone that loved her, so immensely. Shelby thought highly of her daughter, mother, and siblings and was often sharing stories of memories with them. Shelby lived life to the fullest and without regret. She often carried a journal with her where she wrote about her adventurous and free spirited lifestyle. Anyone that had the blessing knew that Shelby was an amazing cook and could make a gourmet meal out of scraps if she had to. She could light up a dark room with just her energy and never held grudges or judged people for the way they chose to live their lives. She had a heart of gold, was pure love, and her loved ones were blessed to have had her presence in their loves.
Shelby is survived by her daughter Tea Jayne, mothers Georgianne Levering and Peg Draskovic, her father Keith Alkire, her sisters and brothers Britton (Tyler) Cadotte, Jayde (Jared) Baker, Cynthia Baker, Angel, Samuel, Veronica, and Tommi Levering, Ohitika Shaw, Nikki Grady (Alkire), and many aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents Rose Hosie, Tom Baker Sr., Helen & Bazel Alkire and Esther Silk, and her brothers Sage Thomas, Jovaughn Baker, TJ Smith.
