A prayer service will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at 6:00 pm (MT) at the church. Sharon died on Friday, October 6, 2023, at the Mobridge Regional Hospital. Services are entrusted to Kesling Funeral Home in Mobridge.
Sharon Kay (McGregor) Huber, 81, of McLaughlin, SD, passed away peacefully at Mobridge Regional Hospital October 6, 2023, after suffering a stroke a few days earlier.
As an avid sports fan, we watched one final high school game her grandchild was playing in just hours before she passed. Nothing gave her more pleasure than being the loudest, proudest, and feistiest fan in the stands. Her final hours were full of stories, laughter, and tears. Even though she was unable to communicate we trust she was catching every word and likely a little annoyed she could not share her opinion.
Sharon was born on March 21, 1942, the 5th of 6 children born to Gordon Sr and Myrtie (Halverson) McGregor, at home in McIntosh, SD. She attended elementary and high school in Selfridge, ND, graduating in 1960 and Bismarck Junior College where she took secretarial training.
Sharon met Clarence (Mickey) Huber, McLaughlin, SD, the love of her life, at a Selfridge HS basketball game she was playing in. Several years later, on Nov. 5, 1961, they married at the McLaughlin United Church of Christ. A marriage that would last 62 years – what an amazing life they built together!
Sharon was a stay-at-home mom raising four sons, Michael Clarence, Scott Lee, Darren Christ and Casey Jay (CJ). She worked with Mickey on the farm and ranch raising cattle, pigs, horses and many different crops.
As their children grew older Sharon worked as a bookkeeper at the Merchant Lumber Yard in McLaughlin and was a teaching assistant at the McLaughlin Public School until she retired. Sharon was very active in her community including Ladies Aid, 4-H Leader, School Board, Lions Club, Jaycees, Corson County Fair Board and served in various roles at United Church of Christ in McLaughlin.
Sharon and Mickey were always up for a good time, they sought out entertainment with their large circle of family and friends wherever they could. Some of their favorite activities were rodeos, raising miniature ponies, bowling league, snowmobiling, card game nights, horse racing and dancing the night away at the Dew Drop Inn, in Mahto SD. Stories about the annual camping trips with their five grandchildren will undoubtably be a highlight at family gatherings for years to come. Rivaled only by her homemade caramel rolls.
There was rarely a sports event Sharon and Mickey did not attend, family vacations were South Dakota State Basketball tournaments and summers were filled with fishing, swimming, and games while camping at Lake Oahe with friends. Mesa AZ became a winter get-away starting in 2011, where a special group of friends kept them young, and the desert heat was a welcome reprieve from the cold winters up north.
Sharon is survived by her husband Mickey; her children Michael (Corrine) Huber, Timber Lake SD; Scott (Sandy) Huber, Martin SD; Darren Huber, Fargo ND; CJ (Laura) Huber, Aberdeen SD; her cherished grandchildren: Kadem Huber, Mackenzie Huber, Frank Huber, Wyatt Huber, Maddie Huber; her brother Gordon Jr (Fran) McGregor, Sparks, NV and her many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Myrtie; brother Gerald McGregor; and sisters Joan Feist, Shirley Kraft and Janice Schneider.
Sharon's death leaves a hole in the heart of our family and all those who knew and loved her. And the sports venues will likely be a little quieter.
The family requests memorials for Sharon go to the Mobridge Regional Healthcare Foundation or the non-profit of your choice.
The Prayer Service and the Funeral Service will both be live streamed on the Kesling Funeral Home Facebook page.
