Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be at 5 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Rose passed away Friday, November 25, 2022, at Monument Health Hospital in Rapid City.

Rose was born on June 13, 1933, at the family farm in Glencross, SD.  She was the 8 th of 9 children to parents Anton and Magdelena (Keller) Hummel.   She grew up on the farm, and attended the Spring Lake Country School, north of Glencross.  After school, she helped on the farm, and also worked at the General Store in Glencross.

While attending a friend's wedding dance in Trail City, she met a handsome young man named Leo Holzer, who asked her to dance.  It was not long after that Leo asked her to marry.  After Leo returned home from serving in the army, they were wed on November 18, 1952, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glencross.  They lived with Leo's parents for a short time in Linton ND, before moving to Mobridge, SD, where they made their home for many years and raised their family of 5 children.  Rose and Leo moved to Pierre, SD in February of 2020, due to some health issues.

Rose had a kind and gentle heart.  She always tried to see the good in everyone, and she was rarely without a big smile and a hug for those around her.  Rose's greatest joy in life was her family, and always was happiest with big gatherings where everyone was together. She loved all her children dearly, and especially all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She had a way of making each one of them feel special and loved.  Children were drawn to her.

Rose was also a creative person and an accomplished, self-taught seamstress.  She could see something nice in a store and would say "I think I can make that."  She sewed many items of clothing, household items, and even costumes for her kid's school events.   She enjoyed making ceramic pieces, and other crafts.  She liked to garden and grow flowers and enjoyed canning her vegetables.

After all of Rose's children left home, she began working as a nurse's aide at the Mobridge Care Center. She truly enjoyed caring for the residents there, and she remained with them for several years.

Rose was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and her faith was very important to her.  Prayer was a regular part of her life.  No matter the problem that arose, she would assure you that she would pray for you, and she did.

Leo and Rose celebrated their 70 th wedding anniversary just 1 week prior to her passing.  She was so happy to have been able to reach that milestone with her beloved, Leo.

So grateful for having shared in her life, are her husband, Leo, her five children Richard (Bernadette) Holzer, Douglas (Char) Holzer, Mark (Dena) Holzer, Deborah (Mikel) Holland, David (Belinda) Holzer.  Her grandchildren are Shawn (Kristen) Holzer, Amy Wieland, Chrissie (Eric) Magness, Ian Holzer, Matt Holzer, Tiffany Holzer, Aaron (Brittany) Holzer, Kaylee (Shawn) Hagen, Logan (Carlee) McIntosh, Brent Holland, AJ Holland, and Tucker Holzer.  She had several great-grandchildren as well.

She was preceded in death by her parents, all her siblings, grand-daughter Emily Ann Holzer, and wife of grandson Ian, Shawnee Holzer.

Memorials may be directed to Country Side Memory Center in Pierre.
