Ronald passed away Thursday, January 18, 2024, at Monument Health Hospital in Rapid City.

Ronald Jayme Takes The Knife was born on January 1, 1963, to Greta Takes the Knife and Ellery Jewett in Eagle Butte, South Dakota.

Ronnie grew up in White Horse surrounded by siblings, cousins and many friends. He enjoyed basketball and became an exceptional player that community members nicknamed him "Ron Hern' after a famous ball player.

He and his childhood friend, Gumbo Lamb, both shared their love for the Minnesota Vikings and every time they played football, they would pretend to be the Vikings and mimic Fran Tarkenton. They both graduated 8th grade from White Horse Day School.

As he grew older, he spent a lot of time riding and breaking horses. A favorite horse of his that he broke was a Palomino that he named "Baby Face" and he would not allow anybody to ride him. His passion for horses and rodeo continued throughout his life and he enjoyed bare back riding around the house. Whenever he could, he would travel to rodeos and watch one of his nephew ride. Several times he would
travel with family to rodeos armed with a fresh can of chew, a spittoon, and thermos full of coffee. Life was great.

Growing up he was very close to his family. One time while branding calves, he and one of his brothers were at odds with another, a cow took off and was chasing Ronnie. His brother went after them and saved Ronnie. They were no longer at odds after this incident.

He also had a passion for mechanics and according to Ronnie he could fix anything. One time, their mom's car was not working. Harold attempted to show him what he thought was the problem was, but Ronnie threw his arms in the air, walked into the house to get his toolbox. Harold recalls watching Ronnie walk outside with his two young nephews, Jimmy and Shawn Davis, all carrying toolboxes. After working on Mom's car for a day and a half, it stayed parked and never worked again.

After he grew up, he worked as a TWEP Deputy for the Cheyenne River Tribal Police Department and later on as a Dispatcher, he was a truck driver with his friend Rick Rousseau.

He married Darlene Traversie and from that union came his daughter, Jo Marie Takes the Knife and his son, Isaac Traversie. He loved his children very much and gave them the nicknames House Mouse and General Ike. When Jo was small Ronnie heard someone in the kitchen and told his then wife that he's hearing things in the kitchen and Jo walked out and said that's just me dad House Mouse and the nickname stuck. He was also very proud of his son, for that was his baby, his only boy.

Ronnie loved his grandchildren very much and would always tease D'Andre and Ronin about bringing him burger king, whenever he saw them or that they owed him a burger. He loved the fact that his only granddaughter loved the same song as him. Jolene and would belt it out with her. He was sad that he wasn't able to meet his grandson Elias in person but would also ask about him for he is a spitting image of Isaac.

Later in life, he married Bernadette Use the Knife, and they shared several years together.

Ronnie was predeceased by his mother, Greta Takes the Knife, and father, Ellery Jewett, a sister, Linda Jewettt, and grandson Killian Lewis.

He is survived by his children, Jo and Isaac; grandchildren Tahira Takes The Knife, DAndre Purivs, Ronin Takes The Knife Lewis and Elias Little Dog; brothers, Gerald Takes the Knife, Harold Frazier, Carlin Jewett; and sister, Karen Guerue; and numerous nieces, nephews,
and cousins.
