Funeral services for Ronald R. Maier, 80 of Mobridge, SD will be held Thursday, October 15, 2026 at 1:30 pm at Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be held at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery.

Ronald Roy Maier passed away on September 26, 2026 at the age of 80 with his wife Cindy and daughter Heather by his side. Ron was born on November 11, 1945 in Bismarck, ND to Roy and Thelma (Bossert) Maier. Ron grew up in McLaughlin, SD and later graduated from Northern State University with a teaching degree. He taught typing and accounting in Lemmon, SD. Ron purchased the Pheasant Drive-In in 1976 and operated it for 42 years. He started in the theater business when he was 4 years old, picking up empty popcorn boxes at the Mac Theater in McLaughlin. In addition to operating the Pheasant Drive-In, he also ran the Mac Theater in Mobridge for 42 years. After he retired, he spent every day with his wife Cindy.

Ron enjoyed going out on the boat, hunting and fishing. He was an avid reader. He also was an expert bowler, once having bowled a 300 game. He loved traveling and went on many adventures with his family. Ron was able to count cards when playing Blackjack, in his younger days. He was so successful at it that he was once asked to leave a Las Vegas casino.

Ron had a great sense of humor. He was easy going and had a big heart. He loved to tell you a fun fact and tell you there would be a quiz later. Ron loved to sing and would sing along to Johnny Horton and Neil Diamond on their road trips. Ron always loved to take short drives around town. He enjoyed taking the grandkids to school when they were younger. Ron had a soft spot for animals and would donate to local shelters. He was also a lifetime member of the Moose Club.

Ron met his wife Cindy at a local restaurant (The Harvest Café) in 1996, who became the love of his life. They enjoyed over 30 happy years spending every moment together. He was grateful to have shared his life with his soulmate. Ron, Cindy, and daughter, Heather, took many enjoyable trips to state parks and iconic places. They had many memorable vacations to Carlsbad Caverns, Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Glacier National Park, San Diego Zoo, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Mexico and Canada. They also attended many movie conventions in Las Vegas and Minneapolis, MN.

Ron is survived by his wife Cindy, daughter Heather (Mike) Rivera, two grandchildren Jaryn and Haidyn Stangl, his brother Vern (Carolyn) Maier, nephews Conrad Maier and Brandon (Alaina) Maier.

Preceded in death by his parents Roy and Thelma Maier and a long line of dogs and cats and one albino ferret, Ron named Freddie.
