Funeral services for Roland Cory, age 88 of Mobridge will be at 2 PM, Friday, January 4, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mobridge. Burial will be at 1:30 PM,MT, Monday at Black Hills National Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will begin at 4 PM, Thursday at the funeral home with a prayer service at 7 PM. Roland passed away, Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013 at Golden Living Center in Mobridge.
Roland L. Cory was born on August 8, 1924 at Aberdeen, SD to Hobart and Esther (Smith) Cory. He attended grade school in Omaha, NE and graduated from Mobridge High School in 1943. He was drafted into the Army the day after graduation and served in the European Theater until the end of the war. After being discharged in 1946 he attended Radio School in Minneapolis for two years then returned to Mobridge to start Cory TV and Radio. Roland and Helen Kamin were married March 25, 1951 and to this union five children were born. He also worked many years as Engineer for KOLY radio, and also installed the first transmitter for KOLY and set up the studios downtown.
Roland enjoyed being an Amateur Radio operator and had his call sign W0YMB for over 70 years. He was active in the local radio club, a member of ARRL and QCW, a 50 year member of the Mobridge Masonic Lodge and Ionic Chapter OES, a lifetime member of the Society of the First Infantry Division and a proud member of the American Legion Honor Guard.
Some of his stained glass works are in the Trinity Lutheran Church and many more are now treasures of his family and friends. In recent years one of his greatest joys was the Honor Flight to Washington DC. He felt privileged to have the opportunity to see the SD pillar.
Roland is survived by his wife Helen of Mobridge, daughters: Janet Ringstmeyer (Richard) of Winner, SD, Lynn Neumeister (Richard Fredrick) of Brooklyn Park, MN, Ann Franklin (David) of Ogden, UT, sons: Warren (Roberta) of Minnetonka, MN and Jon of Seattle, WA, grandchildren: Randy Ringstmeyer (Brittany) of Cheyenne, WY, Laura Shores of Moorhead, MN, and April Verburg (Alex) of Sioux Falls, SD, great grandchildren: Infinity and Spheria Shores of Moorhead, MN, nephew, Tom (Penny) of Los Alamos, NM and other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Jean Wyant.
