Obituary

Funeral services for Robert Volk age 44 of Bismarck, ND will be 11:00 AM CT, Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at the Bullhead School Gym. Burial will be at St. John's Episcopal Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be Monday, from 5 to 7 PM with a prayer service at 7PM at Kesling Funeral Home. Robert passed away Friday, August 9, 2013 at Sr. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck, ND.

Robert was born October 23, 1968 in Aberdeen to Aloys and Wilma (Shooter) Volk. Where he attended elementary school. He graduated Valedictorian from Summit High School, went on to attend the University of South Dakota.

He met and married Mary Jane (Honey) Running Shield. Through this union Victoria Lee Volk was born.

He also attended the University of Mary, Oglala Lakota College and eventually graduated with a bachelor degree in Business Management from Sitting Bull College.

He then met his long time companion Patty Steele whom he shared his life with until her death in 2011.

Robert enjoyed reading, music, puzzles, and anything that challenged his mind. He had a strong belief in the Episcopal Faith. He was kind hearted and also had a love for animals. Robert was also known for his air guitar skills that he mastered in the basement with his brother Daniel.

Robert entered the spirit world on August 9, 2013 with friends and family by his side.

Robert is survived by his daughter; Victoria (Vicki) Lee Volk, grandson, Andreas Volk, father and step-mother Aloys and Leona Volk of Aberdeen, brothers, Todd (Mary) Volk of Billings, MT, Pat Volk of Denver, CO, Devin Volk of Fort Yates ND, Daniel Volk (Jesse Crowshoe) both of Fort Yates, ND, Matthew Hertel and Dana Hertel of Bismarck, ND., sisters, Jana (LeLewis) Gipp of Fort Yates, ND Danielle (Cory) Volk, Elisabeth Hertel, Allison (Travis) Albers, all of Bismarck, ND, Cheryl Shooter of Bullhead, SD Lorraine Shooter of Minneapolis, MN, Jerrilyn Shooter of Neopit, WI, aunts Suzanne Shield of Fort Yates, also many nieces and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Henry and Mary Volk, maternal grandparents, Frank and Zelda Shooter, mother, Wilma Shooter Brandt, life companion, Patty Steele, brother, Garrett Shooter.
