Funeral services for Robert Lee Sitting Dog 62, of McLaughlin, will be at 1:00 pm, Friday, April 10, 2026, at the Blue Gym in McLaughlin. A procession will be leaving Kesling Funeral Home Friday, at 11:00 am. Burial will take place at the Agard Cemetery 18 miles South of McIntosh under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home. Visitation will go from 5:00 - 7:00 pm, Thursday, April 9, 2026, will be a prayer service and naming ceremony at 7:00 pm, at Kesling Funeral Home in Mobridge. Robert passed away Monday, March 23, 2026, in Fort Yates, ND. 

Mr. Robert L. Sitting Dog Sr. was born on October 14, 1963, to Joel & Bernice Sitting Dog. As a young boy he grew up on his grandparents, William and Irene Agard & family farm, 20 miles south of McIntosh, SD. Riding horses was a love of his with a lot of memories. Robert loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Also did his own mechanic jobs on vehicles. He would build projects with wood. Robert was employed with Prairie Knights Casino & Standing Rock Housing Authority. He also worked with surrounding farmers in the McIntosh Area, where he was working in a field and branding cattle.

Robert will be remembered with joking and teasing, an instigator. He loved his children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren, very much. He raised three granddaughters and one grandson: Shelloni Sitting Dog, Ulyssa Sitting Dog, K’Aliyah White Eagle, and Uriah Sitting Dog. Robert went to McIntosh School, where he was in sports activities, football and basketball. He loved his music and going to local dances and shaking a leg. Robert met his loving wife Shelley (Mells) Sitting Dog in 1991. They were married on October 15, 2004, and were together for 34 years. To this union they had Sheila Rose and Austin Lee.

Robert is survived by his children; Robert Jr. (Nikki), William (Cheyanne), Jaimee (Josh), Sheila (Joey), Austin Sitting Dog, his wife Shelley Sitting Dog, sisters Linda DeRockbraine, Arlene Miner, Dorothy (Chico) Baker, Loretta Sitting Dog, Hunka sister Anna Lisa Agard, special Godson Jacari Sitting Dog, great Godsons Josiah Crawford, Kohen Sitting Dog, great granddaughter Tyzlee Sitting Dog.

He was proceeded in death by his grandparents William & Irene Agard, Robert Sitting Dog & Martha Firecloud, parents Joel & Bernice Sitting Dog, daughters Tawhnee Sitting Dog, Althea Sitting Dog, grandson Dorian White Twin, brothers Mark Sitting Dog, Walter Sitting Dog, nieces Karla Yellow Bird, Jade Miner, Roxanna Sitting Dog, aunt Keva Sitting Dog, and Shirley Marvin.
