CHESKEY, Robert Alan (Bob)
Mass of Christian Burial for Robert Cheskey, 54 of Sacramento, CA, formerly of Selby, SD will be Monday, 10:00 am at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Bangor Cemetery.
Mr. Cheskey passed away, July 5, 2010 at Sacramento, CA.
Born March 14, 1956, in Gettysburg, South Dakota, Bob passed away unexpectedly due to complications associated with kidney failure on July 5, 2010, in Folsom, CA. Survived by his long time companion, Ruth Nye, mother, Dolores Parsons-Rousseau, brothers Jim and Bill Cheskey, Jeff and Jason Parsons, sisters Sandra Chrans and Shelly Clark. Preceded in death by his father, Cameron Cheskey. Also survived by numerous aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. Bob spent the early years of his life growing up on the farm of his beloved grandparents, Charles and Gertrude Cheskey in Selby, SD. He spent summers of his adolescent life on the ranch of his aunt and uncle in Belle Fourche, SD, working and enjoying adventures with his cousins, most fondly Ross Delzer. His love for the Black Hills of SD remained with him the rest of his life. He lived in Spearfish, SD, while attending college at Black Hills State University. Following graduation, Bob joined the U.S. Dept. of Energy, Western Area Power Administration, in Loveland, CO, working in power contracts. He later worked in the Headquarters office of Western in Golden, CO, and in 1995 moved to the Western Regional Office in Folsom as the Power Contracts manager. Hereditary kidney disease necessitated a kidney transplant which he managed to live quite well with for many years until he was forced to resume dialysis in 2008. He retired in January 2009 in Folsom. He had a wide variety of interests including exploring wilderness areas, geology, rock collecting, camping, fishing, and his beloved cats. An avid reader throughout his life, he was also a passionate sports fan. He enjoyed boxing, football, and hockey, never missing a Minnesota Vikings football game, or a Colorado Avalanche hockey game. Bob will be remembered for his excellent communication skills, professionalism, knowledge of the electric utility industry, kindness, and sense of humor. He will be deeply missed by all his family, friends and colleagues in the electric utility industry.
