Funeral services for Rick Brockel age 55 of Rapid City formally of McLaughlin will be 1:30 PM MT Thursday, August 21, 2014 at the UCC Church in McLaughlin. Burial will be in the Baptist Cemetery in McLaughlin under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be one hour prior to the church. Rick passed away Friday, August 15, 2014 in Rapid City.

Rick was born September 19, 1958 at McLaughlin to James and Audrey (Schock) Brockel. He graduated from McLaughlin High School in 1977, rodeo in high school rode bareback, bulls, calf roping, steer wrestling, and 4-H.
He hit the rodeo road, member of the S.D. Rodeo NRCA. Was the state runner-up Assn of Bull Riding. Bought his Pro card and traveled many miles, many sates. Rick and Tom Peterson were emitted to Australia for a bull riding, the rodeo was cut short due to Australia not having enough funds. They had a good time, ate some strange foods and headed back to the United States.
Rick married Jill Akers in 1991, and a son Jesse James was born in 1992.

Rick worked for various building companies in the Denver area until returning to South Dakota, Rapid City in 2010. The worked for a short time for a Feed lot company out of Washburn. North Dakota until a work accident that kept him with some disabilities.

He is survived by his mother Audrey Brockel, of Bismarck, ND son Jesse Brockel, of Thornton, CO., sister Peggy (Brockel) Holzer and her husband Joe, of Bismarck, ND, niece Jackie (Holzer) Mercer husband Travis their children Carson and Molly, Blunt, SD nephew Jeff Holzer and wife Prairie and their child Wendy, of Mandan, ND, uncles, Edward Schock and his wife Sharon, of McLaughlin, SD, Darwin Schock and his wife Berniece, of Hermosa, SD Orn Hier, of Rochester, MN, aunt Lorraine (Brockel) Link, of Sioux City, IA.

Rick was preceded in death by his father Jim Brockel, grandparents Henry and Bertha Brockel, Edward and Lorrina Schock
