Obituary

Graveside services for Richard "Dick" Waddell age 94 of Isabel, will be 10:00 AM MT Monday, October 31, 2016 at Hillview Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be Sunday, October 30, 2016 beginning at 4:00 PM MT at the United Church of Christ, Isabel, SD with a prayer services at 5:00 PM. Richard passed away Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Mobridge Regional Hospital.

Richard "Dick" Waddell was born May 16th, 1922, in a box car near Merriman, Nebraska to Merle and Minnie (Gentry) Waddell.

Richard Waddell, a rancher at heart and long - time contributed to his community and church, died Oct. 27, 2016.

He attended and graduated from the Merriman High School, after graduation he enlisted in the Air Force and served as a gunner aboard B-24 airplanes. Following his military service, he returned home and with his dad and brother, Ronnie, they purchased a ranch north of Isabel, SD on Firesteel Creek.

Richard married Martha Fuhrer on July 24th, 1948. From this union 3 daughters were born Mary, Marge and Micki. Richard and Martha were married for 68 years. Richard was instrumental in the initial starting of the Isabel Rodeo, Isabel Development Corporation, and the building of the UCC Church. He was a Shriner, member of the American Legion, served on the Moreau Grand Board, and was a State Senator for 2 terms. He was also involved in Real Estate for many years. Richard and Martha ranched until they retired in 1982 and built a home in Isabel, SD.

Richard is survived by his wife of 68 years Martha, daughters; Mary (Keith) Dorsey, Isabel, SD, Marge (Pat) Alley, Pagosa Springs, CO, Micki (Barry) Hutchinson, Timber Lake, SD., 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Raymond and Ronald Waddell.

Richard's family is grateful for all of the care providers and medical staff who cared for him during his stay at the Golden Living Center.
