Funeral services for Richard Gottlieb Glaser, 71, McLaughlin, SD will be 10:30 AM,MT, Tuesday, December 22 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in McLaughlin, Father Tony Grossenburg officiating. Burial will be at the McLaughlin City Cemetery, under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Monday at 7:00 PM, MT at the church. Mr. Glaser passed away on December 11, 2009 at the Mobridge Regional Hospital in Mobridge.
Richard was born on September 23, 1938 to Emanuel Bernard (Happy) Glaser and Evelyn Marie Upham at the farm house southwest of McLaughlin where he lived until the time of his death. He graduated from McLaughlin High School in 1956.
Richard joined the Air Force and after an honorable discharge, he returned to the family farm. He married Donna Louise Johnson in 1969. They continued to live on the family farm with their three boys. He never wanted to live anywhere else.
Richard served on the Farmers Union Elevator Board for 19 years and was on the West River Telephone Board of Directors for the past 17 years.
Rich loved farming and spending time on his tractors. He also enjoyed working with and just watching the cattle, especially the calves. Haying was his favorite time of year.
He had a love for being outdoors. He liked to fish but only if he was "catching". He also enjoyed riding the 4-wheeler and always loved a good game of cards. Time spent with his beautiful grandchildren was one of the greatest joys of his life.
Rich was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Brian Emanuel, a brother, Emanuel Bernard Jr., an infant sister, Mary Ann and infant brother, Marvin Eugene, his sister June Lavonne and her husband, Art Pastian.
He is survived by his wife, Louise (Johnson) Glaser, two sons, Pete (Yasuko Kojima) and their two daughters, Destiny and Zenna who live in South Carolina; Ken (Denise Buechler) one son, Chance and a daughter, Mercedes who live in Colorado; his sister Linda and husband,(Bill High), of Pe Ell, WA and several nephews and nieces.
