Funeral services for Raylene Ann Elk, 49, of New Town, North Dakota will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, August 30, 2024, at the Kesling Funeral Chapel in Mobridge. Burial will be at the Big Lake Cemetery near Cannonball, North Dakota under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home. A private family visitation will be held one hour prior to the services. Raylene passed away, Sunday, August 18, 2024, at Sanford Medical Center in Bismarck.
Beloved mother, grandma, sister, cousin and friend. Known by many as Raylene, RayRay, or Rae.
Raylene was born in Fort Yates, North Dakota on March 17, 1975, to Evans Elk and Cleone Iron Hawk. She was raised on the Standing Rock Reservation. She went to college and got her BA in Business Administration. She moved from Bismarck to the New Town area and took care of her kids and her late mom.
Growing up, as a child, the family traveled to Camp Meetings to all different reservations. She met a lot of family that way and made new friends. Raylene was a hard worker but loved cracking jokes and laughing.
Raylene loved road trips and random drives. She loved laughing. She was a huge Patriots fan, just like her bro. She enjoyed reading, collected snow globes and loved butterflies. Raylene enjoyed watching movies and baking. She often got asked to cater, she made good Jello cakes and potato and macaroni salads. She liked going on walks. Her life revolved around her kids and grandbabies. She loved being with her little takojas, and godson, Landry Steele.
Raylene is survived by her children: Wyatt Elk (New Town), Raven Azure (Bismarck, Jennavieve Azure (Belcourt), Evelyn Marvel (New Town) and grandchildren, Zavianna AIvory Mendoza, Leandro Iron Hawk Mendoza, Cleosandra Luna Azure and her sister Georgene (Florida) and many cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Raylene was preceded in death by her brother, Jerome Elk, parents, Evans J. Elk (Cannonball) and Cleone B. Iron Hawk (New Town), paternal grandparents, Justus and Melda (Mentz) Elk, maternal grandparents, Wilson and Marjorie (White Weasel) Iron Hawk.
