Obituary

Memorial services for Ramona Reiker, 78 of McLaughlin, SD will be at 10 AM MT, Saturday, March 27, 2010 at the UCC Church in McLaughlin. Rev. Leola Allen will be officiating. Inurnment will be in UCC Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Mrs. Reiker passed away Monday, March 22, 2010 at the Golden Living Center in Mobridge.



Ramona Fern Reiker was born on August 14, 1931 in McLaughlin to Art and Emma (Schneider) Berg. She attended school at McLaughlin and also helped out on the family farm. In 1952 she married Ben Reiker in McLaughlin and they made their home on a farm east of McLaughlin. Ramona raised her family on the farm and also raised chickens which she in turn sold the eggs and the chickens to help make ends meet. She loved her life on the farm. She worked hard and enjoyed it. While they were on the farm they were also foster parents for numerous children. They retired in 1976 and moved into McLaughlin where they owned the B & R Dray Line in McLaughlin.



Ramona was a lifetime member of the UCC Church, a member of the ladies aid, and was very active in the Senior Citizens Center where she would visit and play cards. She enjoyed traveling especially to see her children and grandchildren. She was an avid gardener, planting a huge garden every year and spending countless hours taking care of it. She was also known for her cooking and canning abilities. Ramona was a wonderful mother and grandmother, spoiling her grandkids every chance she got. She entered the Mobridge Care Center in 1997 where she has since resided. She liked the socializing and activities she was able to do with her fellow residents and staff.



Ramona is survived by five children, Charlotte (Dan) Hern of Rapid City, Michael (friend Theresa) Reiker of Watertown, Bella (Alvin) Volk of Selfridge, ND, Nora (Maynard) Walker of Gillette, WY, and Robin (Jake) Woods of Billings, MT; nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; four brothers, Jim (Jean) Berg of Inwood, IA, Tom (Friend, Sandi) Berg of Mobridge, Arlen Berg of Rapid City, Doug (Sue) Berg of Rapid City; one sister, Dona Berg of Rapid City.



She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ben in 1987, and two grandchildren, Jonathan Hern and Justina Reiker.



Honorary casketbearers will be all of her friends and staff at the Golden Living Center, her grandchildren: Christopher Reiker, Jessica Reiker, Matthew Volk, Casey "Boo Boo" Walker, Daniel Reiker, Jesse Hern, Jamie Hern, Nicholas Walker, and Nicole Volk, her great grandchildren: Damian Wisdom, Nova Hern, Kelly Hern, Cole Holzer, Clay Holzer, Charles Holzer, and Davis Reiker.



The Thompson Brothers will provide special music. Jeannie Schulz will be the pianist.
