Funeral Services for Ralph Rubida, age 85, of Mound City will be 2:00 PM, Saturday May 7, 2011 at the Bethany Lutheran Church. Burial will be at the Bethany Lutheran Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home. There will be visitation at the church from 5:00-7:00 with a Prayer Service beginning at 7 PM Friday. Mr. Rubida passed away Sunday, May 1, 2011 at the Eureka Hospital. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials to the Alzheimer's Association
Ralph Rubida was born June 11, 1925 to Louis and Adda (Couture) Rubida on the farm east of Vermillion and passed away Sunday, May 1, 2011 unexpectedly on grandson John Schnaible's Birthday. He served as a Navy Seabee during WWII in the South Pacific. Ralph later married Adela Opheim on June 28, 1949. They recently celebrated there 62nd Wedding Anniversary. They had four children: Susan, Alan, Roxane, and Mark.
Ralph was employed by Council Oak Food Stores in Vermillion and as a manager in Akron, IA. and Elk Point, SD until 1960 when the family moved to Campbell Co, and lived on a farm north of Java, SD originally owned by Adele's grandparents, George and Christina Bender. Upon retirement they moved to Mound City to be near Adele's sister Joyce Travis.
Ralph enjoyed his pet dogs, fishing, hunting and hunting Indian artifacts along the Missouri River when it was legal. He also enjoyed traveling to Yellowstone, Jamestown and Williamsburg, VA. He had precious memories when he attended the Seabee reunions in Springfield, MO. Adele and Ralph traveled with Adele's brother and wife leaving McMinnville, OR and followed the Alcan Highway to Fairbanks, Alaska and back. They then went to Arizona and Mississippi to visit their children. Ralph disliked getting wet in the rain and snow and in later years cooked chicken and turkey.
Ralph was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and was an usher for a number of years and also served on the Church Board.
Ralph is survived by his wife Adele, Children; Susan (Larry) Kellar of Mound City, Alan (Diana) Rubida of Yuma, AZ, Roxane (Perry) Schnaible of Sioux Falls, SD and Mark Jay Rubida of Java, SD. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. One sister; Carmelita (Tony) Portello of Grand Junction, CO, and one niece Lana Jo (Tom) Cockbill of New York City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother; Louis and sister-in-law Birdenia Stephens Rubida. and infant daughter who died at birth.
Casketbearers will be Tony Portella, Jason Keller, Mark Keller, John Schnaible, Matthew Schnaible, Starla Kellar.
Honorary Bearers will be All Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.
