Quintine Mertz, 81, of Mobridge passed away Thursday, July 2, 2020 at his home in Mobridge. Visitation will start at 5 PM, Monday, July 6, 2020 with a prayer service at 7 PM at Kesling Funeral Home. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held and burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery. Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge is in charge of arrangements.

Quintine Louis Mertz was born January 27, 1939 in Java, South Dakota to Adam and Rose (Aippersbach) Mertz. He grew up on the family farm and attended school in Java and graduated High School in Java. After High School, Ouintine began working for Johnny Gab at the Phillips 66 station in Mobridge. He then joined the US Army and was stationed in Germany. After his honorable discharge he began employment with Montana Dakota Utilities in Mobridge. After retirement, Quintine liked to keep busy and worked part time at Payless Foods in Mobridge. He then began working at Mobridge Livestock counting thousands of cattle that were unloaded the day before and on sale days. Ouintine enjoyed the challenge of this job and enjoyed visiting with all the ranchers and truckers. He also worked several years for Walworth and Campbell county, planting grass and CRP. This was another seasonal job he truly enjoyed.

Some day's beer o'clock could not come soon enough, He, JW and Quintine's brothers would meet downtown for a beverage or two. Quintine enjoyed the river life, including fishing and camping and loved being outdoors.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mobridge.

He is survived by his wife, Lynn of Mobridge, one sister, Ella Schneider of Mobridge, two brothers, Don (Marge) Mertz of Mobridge and Allen (Jane) Mertz of Mobridge. One sister in law, Mary Mertz of Mobridge and also many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Butter his cat. The only cat in town that could order off the menu and got it.

Quintine was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Roland, two sisters, Ellina Barth and Eleanor Gab. One brother in law, Jerry Keller.

Quintine will be remembered by and for all of the lives he has touched.
